OK, I’ve done some digging and you’re correct, and I was only half correct.

It seems the agreement was nutted out at the first Wests Tigers board meeting (not pre merger). By the second meeting, the Balmain members on the WT Board had reneged on the deal.

And from that point on everything became a Wests vs Balmain thing for many many many years ...
sad but true

I applaud you both for not turning that discussion into an abusive argument, coz that’s where I thought that was going, turned out to be an interesting read.
We are one, Wests Tigers!

Seems like that good debate is settled,
And what matters now is what the club is planning to do and what they are saying.

I believe that Lee Hagipantelis is 100% correct in moving the WT forward and in the right direction.

Lee Hagipantelis:
"We must always be faithful to our historical roots, that is the Inner West of Balmain and the South West of the Western Suburbs."
“The Centre of Excellence at Concord will service the Inner West, but what we need to do is produce something similar for the South West, and we are well advanced in those discussions.”
“A lot of other rugby league areas have benefitted from generous grants from the government, and I see no reason why the South West shouldn’t also be a beneficiary."
G'day @FinestTigers : You and Lee H are 💯 correct as you are both passionate WT supporters.

Lee H may look a bit different to what we perceive a typical WT supporter to look like, but that should no longer matter imo.....He's Chairman of Our Board and We gotta stop criticizing him.
He's just now proving what a passionate supporter he is by taking on the action against the NRL and I support him 100% with that.

A few on here including @mike [and I respect his opinion very much] have said Our Board is not as good as it should be, but for now it's the only Board We have and We need to support them until We can come up with something better.

I've been a Madge supporter all the way through, but Our Team now seems to have a different feeling since Sheens and Noddy took over and that's great.
With Appi and Pappi joining us for 2023 and the COE opening soon, We are imo starting to build something exciting and I'm really looking forward to Our future 👍😀

True, but It took many many many years and I remember it was further fuelled back in the day when Sheens decided to put all the contracted reggies into the Balmain Ryde Eastwood side. 🤔
Because Wests wouldn’t coach “his” reserves the way he wanted them coached… or play them the way he wanted them to be played.

They said - no thanks, we’ll do things our way…. Sheens said - not with my players you won’t.

I’m not sure that’s accurate ... I always thought he just wanted one NSW Cup side so as all fringe players were playing together. And that he would have chosen BRE as basing the NSW Cup team in the inner west was easier to accomodate.

But wherever the truth of the past lies ... karma has ultimately taken hold and our reggies now play under the Western Suburbs Magpies banner. 👍

Whatever the reason Sheens was entitled to want his fringe first graders to play together and to train in a way that best suited the NRL team. If he thought that was better achieved through the Hawks so be it. And that comes from a Magpie who was quite dirty about it at the time.

It's accurate....
Supercoach tried it again in 2011 - Didn't work out well for them..

Hardly karma

When I started this thread I certainly did not intend it to be a platform to discuss magpies issues or balmain issues actually the opposite .
But now 4 pages in im disappointed to see almost everypost discussing the old components that make up wests tigers . Why can't we just be one club with one team in all grades and one identity .I'm decended from a grandfather who went to balmain tigers first ever game at birchgrove oval in 1908 yet despite this when wests tigers formed I dropped the old club and adopted the new club the mighty wests tigers with all my heart
Everyone says the tigers need an identity and that's ONE identity

The only good thing that came out of the cowboys game robbery was for about 36 hours the forum was united . However the rest of the time its full of pro and anti on almost every topic
The big one is the anti Nofo one ,the Brooks one , there is also a lot of savage remarks about others Peachy ,Gildhart the new coaches etc . The bloody commentators on fox particularly Kent ridicule us as a basket case . I hope the fact no mainline coaches or top class players seem to want to come to concord is not because they view the club as a place so full of disharmony that they fear "career suicide " by coming
I am glad that 3 people Tim,Benji and Robbie who truly love the club are taking over and sure hope they have some pulling power to get a few big names to improve our weak roster
Reading the forum would make you wonder if progress is possible
Steve you can throw in there the front office. They have copped a lot of criticism and in a most cases it has been justified.
The threat of legal action by the WT and their unwavering commitment to this has highlighted the front office support to the team.
If the playing group know the club has their backs then that will create team harmony.
Well done!

With respect I think you're over-reacting a little. There has been a history to our Club that can't be ignored and, in fact, should be well-remembered for only the right reasons. Anyone who thinks Wests or Balmain would have survived intact post 2000 is kidding themselves. We were both stuffed. Wests Tigers was a great merger and, despite a few issues along the way, seems to be getting stronger.
