Luke Brooks #167

Happy to lose Brooks and OK with Frizell although his best football is behind him. The question becomes who plays half next year. Madden is honest but not the answer, Hastings is a good 13 but too slow for half and the good young halves in the club are years away from being NRL-ready. We'd need to buy a half but I'm not aware of any good players on the market.

Laurie

You think? I've always thought he was more a half / five-eighth than a fullback so you could be right.
I'm not sure, but I'd like to see it tried. A few things interest me.

1. IMO we aren't utilising his ball playing ability.

2. We desperately need a natural creative footballer in the halves.

3. With Hastings at lock, its a good time to transition Laurie back to the halves. Word is he is quite vocal in the group, we all know how important that is when playing 7.

4. We don't necessarily need a traditional 7 with Hastings at lock.

5. Short kicking game is the best in the team.

NEGATIVES

1.Big question mark over long kicking game.

2. Can he take the right options, particularly last tackle options.

Well-reasoned. Let's hope you're on the money.

Like the Klemmer rumour, this improves our side.

Frizell is not the player he was but he's still a very effective second rower with a couple of good years left.

Papali'i on one side and Frizell on the other would be great if it eventuates.

Frizell would massively improve our side. Professional, reliable, speedy, leader. He may not be explosive but fills a lot of holes in our squad.

Brooks is not working at the club. Time to move on for both parties. Madden may not be a game changer but he has more upside at this stage of his career than Brooks

30 year old often injured back rower. He was a gun but makes zero sense for a rebuilding tigers side.

why does it make zero sense? we have a plethora of back rowers that need nurturing. Friz has played at the highest levels of the game. surely his experiences would help them coming through and bridge the gap for a couple years while they jump between firsts and reggies? I reckon Papali'i would even learn a few things off him.

I would like Brayden Trindall, but still have Madden signed up.

Frizell over the years…

2018 (23/26 games)
2019 (20/24 games)
2020 (20/20 games)
2021 (19/25 games)
2022 (18/20 games)
= 5 year AVG - 100/115

Missing 15 games over 5 years isn’t too bad. Average of 3 per year. Not to mention that 2018/19 he would’ve “missed” games due to origin duties.

If we truly are a rebuilding tigers side, maybe we can start with the halfback that has had 9 years in the top grade and has shown minimal development in regard to game management, decision making and leadership.

Michael Chee-Kam has won us as many games as our star half has in their respective WT’s careers. I don’t hate Brooks but at some point you have to ask whether he is the answer moving forward.
