David Nofoaluma #164

Nofa’s kick return metres are off the charts, and his missed tackles are virtually non existent since he went to Storm.
What are we doing wrong? Or what are we not doing?
Lee Hagipantelis, who has a close personal relationship with Nofa, says Nofa just needs a reason to play. He said that prior to him going to Storm.
If this is the case, what is that reason? What has the club not been giving him?
We know it’s not money, he’s possibly the highest paid winger in the NRL?
Can anyone point to why or how we develop good footy players into average footy players and other clubs do the opposite?
Noffa is a good player. It’s just now that he is playing with 16 other good players. Winning changes everything. If he’s a leader he’ll come back and bring those things he apparently didn’t know about rugby league to help the others.

I agree about wingers. This is one area to save in the salary cap, you don’t need names, we have plenty of Charlie Staines in our nursery . We will be rewarded with return in this area. Money best spent would be to sign a quality centre while hopefully other home grown juniors are brought through .

He’s simply sick of losing and having duds around him I’d say. Imagine if his career was at somewhere like Melbourne and wasn’t with us. Prob be one of the best wingers in the comp.
Performing to the overall lower standard, rather than being his best self on the park?

You reckon the Storm have just flicked his switch and he’s now highly motivated to return to his beloved WT and be a leader?

He can like Bellamy all he likes. Great and refreshing restart it seems, good to see something is working again. Well done.

reminder

The master and apprentice are on path here for a happy ending for all. 50/50

Nofa' s game looks very simple at the Storm - stay on your wing. They don't rely on him for the dirty hit ups and defensively since he has been there Melbourne have been almost impenetrable. He just has to finish well and he has always been excellent at that. He has arrived when Munster has gone into another gear and has taken them all with him. FB gives him so much scope to play his natural game.

So it’s been the coach all through his career?
Nope, Nofa has defensive issues and we all know it.
Whenever this thread comes up some blame Noffa, others blame the center he is with.

Nofa always was good at crossing the line. Nofa can score and he can surely make meters. Defense was really the only problem and

Other then perhaps giving Melbourne another trophy that they don't deserve. It is a stroke of genius to loan Nofa like this. It will instill a better attitude, train up his tackling ability and maybe get some fire into him.

Heck if Chad Townsend goes down lets loan out Luke Brooks to the Cows. Give them another reason to hate us ;)

He said it himself two years ago in an interview that he was sick of not playing finals football.
He is an exceptional winger and some of these good players are show ponies, confident, arrogant, and egotistical.
Noffa is borderline all of these traits which I'm sure doesn't gel too well with teammates.
I can only assume that someone like Ken who is a great finisher has a lot of respect from his team because of his humility.
It's a pity that a well paid professional athlete has to go to a better club to 'put in'
Let's hope that when he comes back he will be better than ever because our backs lack quality.

Until we change our culture from within our club... One or two players going to professional outfits and coming back will do little

I don’t think it’s in him but I hope I’m wrong. Maybe the COE and change of coach will invigorate his ego?

Sheens did say that Nofa doesn’t get automatically selected at Storm, he’s gonna have to work to get into the team. But he was dropped at WT and dropped from the leadership group but none of that seemed to make a difference lol. Was it the way we dropped him? I’m struggling to understand how we can have a negative impact on any player?

I don't like his apparent white-anting and Melbourne lick-spittle comments but I do agree with what you say. We have had coaches from systems with 'good' cultures try to turn this ship around - the players turned on some of them so to me it still comes down to where the culture problem lies - is it the players themselves or is it the system?
In relation to your other post about Bellamy having him focussed on his role and game ahead why is it he didn't/ couldn't/ wasn't asked to focus on that in his 10 years with that? Or is it he simply didn't do it because of his poor culture and lack of respect for other in the club? Genuine questions.

It’s starting to look like the impediments to his play are relationship issues within the club?
If that’s the case then that needs to be sorted pronto. It can’t wait until offseason.
I recall “bloke in the bar” asking Nofa “who else(apart from Benji) plays golf at WT?” Said he didn’t know, but said it in a way that made me think perhaps he didn’t care?
A team without teamwork is not a team, and imho, that’s why we lose so many games.

I think its pretty obvious that Nofa has learned pretty quickly the value of playing with players of quality who have a winning mentality and coach who doesn't tolerate not owning your performance. It's not my fault and pointing fingers is not tolerated at the Storm.

Yep. Recruitment and development and then competition for spots. It’s upstairs that counts. Melbourne were shopping pappenhsuzen, he continued to try his best and took his opportunity and became an origin player. Noffa is probably 1st picked at tigers. The word entitled comes to mind.
