Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

There is very little in the way of top class recruits available for 2023 maybe a manly or knights player unsigned and on the outer but a huge list available for 2024 .
In Nov onwards we need to target a few of the great players for 2024 -2027
Examples of this .Ramien ,Farnworth, Liam Martin Angus Crighton ,Moses ,Dylan Brown
Bird my even be a possibility for 2023

As much I'm mindful of avoiding the mistakes of the past, I'd be inclined to offer above market rates to get him. He's a current SOO player in his mid 20s. And his numbers are good now and he's not being forced out of his club for reasons other than cap pressure. If we put 100k together for loaning out various players I'd be adding that to his signing bonus.
What would u pay for him , $700,000 a season maybe $750,000 might get him over the line . And a 4 year deal

Dean Ritchie also said this morning WT are chasing Liam Martin. Contracted to Penrith in 2023 but said WT would look for an early release...
Doesn't matter, Sign him for whenever you can get him....
If we can't get him until 24, So be it - But at least quality players will know there's more quality players coming in 24 if they're looking to come across next year at any point.

Please oh great NRL gods in the sky, please please give Liam Nartin to Weststigers.
My santa wish list in no particular order for forwards are:

Stefano Utoikamanu
Apisai Koroisau
Tyson Frizell
Isaiah Papali'i
Josh Curran
Liam Martin
Joe Ofahengaue
Jackson Hastings
Fonua Pole
Andrew Fafita (1yr benchy)

Unless you know Nick Politis you're under cap pressure with 20 more players to pay, or the ball boys will be playing on the wing ( which if we lose Nofo and Kenny may be a better option )

Kenny is only 28 he’s still got a few more years left of quality, as people said he may have a few niggling injuries that an off season will help, he’s shown enough last year and this year that when he gets the ball he can be a weapon we need out wide

Next year he is 29, the year after 30 which is when his new contract kicks in.

I can't see why the club would look to move him on early makes no sense.

Nofa is same age as Ken - so in 2024 when Ken contract would be renewed & if we keep Nofa we would have 2 30yr Wingers on the books.

Penrith will be forced to fend off four rival clubs – and possibly a fifth – in a dogfight to retain NSW back-rower Liam Martin.

And a proposed, yet so far declined, upgrade for Martin has been described as a “sticking point” by his manager.

Martin, 25, comes off contract after 2023 but is seeking an upgrade for next season.

The Daily Telegraph has been told St George Illawarra, Wests Tigers, Melbourne Storm and Cronulla have shown interest in Martin, who played all three State of Origin games this season.

Martin’s future may well depend on whether the Panthers can find some additional money for an upgrade next season.

Penrith has already lost Viliame Kikau (Bulldogs), Api Koroisau (Wests Tigers), Sean O’Sullivan (Dolphins) and J’Maine Hopgood (Parramatta) for next season.

While reluctant to discuss his client’s negotiations, Martin’s manager Al Gainey said: “We realise Penrith is under a tight situation but Liam is certainly deserving of a very good contract in upcoming talks.

“The club’s reluctance to be able to offer an upgrade at this stage is a little bit of a sticking point.”

Martin scored Penrith’s matchwinning try late in the game against Souths last Friday night at Accor Stadium. He had 16 runs for 148 metres including six tackle breaks.

Penrith is desperate to retain Martin and Martin wants to remain – provided the adequate finances can be found by the club.

Cronulla coach Craig Fitzgibbon is a known Martin fan although the Sharks would struggle to fit the back-rower in under the club’s salary cap.

It is understood Martin and Gainey will hold further talks after Penrith’s match against the Warriors on Friday night at BlueBet Stadium.

Panthers and NSW teammates Stephen Crichton and Brian To’o also come off contract after next season.

Penrith will also need to decide whether the club will retain forward Spencer Leniu and winger Charlie Stains.

An upgrade for Martin may be possible if Penrith move a player in coming weeks.

Melbourne may elect against pursuing Martin given the club will be throwing bags of cash to retain gun player Cam Munster.

Martin’s heroics against Souths were even more meritorious given he rolled an ankle against Melbourne in round 22.

Asked about his decisive try, Martin said: “It was my first matchwinner.”

Penrith claimed the NRL minor premiership with their win over Souths.
Martin is an absolute must in my opinion, he is a real competitor, not the best line runner in the comp, but will lock down one side of the field and will do all the 1% plays that we have been missing on an edge

1000% this.
He is quality & has plenty of years in the legs to go, you wait a year for quality like him if needed.

The best attribute of Martin's is his spirit. I think he's a very loyal type so it wiould be difficult to get him away from the Panthers.

Martin would be a great buy and I hope we go hard for him. But realistically it will be for 2024 and no chance at all that Penrith release him early after already losing Kikau for 2023. Need Api to get in his ear, and while he is at it, get Leniu to come over too!

Would love to get Angus and Liam for 2024 and we have the money but while our image problems persist I don't think money will be the issue but if between now and November Tim can make enough changes to convince market that Tigers are a club on the rise and a happy harmonious one at that then these type of signings are quite possible

Spencer Leniu is playing low minutes in a very strong Panthers outfit and is a weapon. Would throw some coin his way and with Blore and Paps that would be a strong rotation. Liam Martin would be an excellent signing, however I just don't want to get excited anymore until we see it as an official signing. We have been burnt more times than we care to remember.

Its a no from me for Fifita

But I was simply following the Sydney Roosters model of a successful club. 😉

Haven't you heard, Angus has agreed to extend with the rorters for less money than other offers 🤔

I don't think anyone hates Ken think we all like him. He is a good winger when he is fully fit. He also provides us a clear aerial target as well.

Just on the meter eater Nofa was averaging 150-170mtrs a game then last 2yrs under Madge been down to 130mtrs a game. At the Storm however he is back up to 150mtrs+ a game.

Ken has a similar story under Madge down to 130mtrs a game but before the last 2yrs was sitting in the 150-180mtrs a game. Under Madge both tended to run inwards rather than dart and go hard. It was a strange change moving away for what worked best for them & body shape.

I actually would like to have them both around, having 2 meter eater wingers at the back inform and free running instantly puts us on the front foot.

Issue though is can a team have 2, 30yr old wingers in side which I doubt they can.
Mostly agree, but remember that the major, never resolved issue for Nofoaluma is his awful defence, miss-reading and positioning.

I think it was the DT (don't quote me) that suggested he'd be offered around 600k. Him and his manager value him at 750k a season

I wonder if the interest in a Martin is because there are reports Kautoga has signed with the dogs and therefore no other second rowers are ready.
