SHEENS RECRUITS OLD FRIEND

Former Raiders coach David Furner has signed on to join Tim Sheens' staff at the Tigers for next season.

Furner is regarded among the best assistant coaches in the game, having worked at the Knights and Bulldogs over the past two seasons.

Sheens and Furner are extremely close - the veteran coach brought Furner into first grade as a player in the early 1990s and then had him as an assistant when he coached the Kangaroos a decade ago.

Furner, whose father Don was the inaugural Raiders coach in 1982, also coached Canberra from 2009 to 2013.
That's nice

Benj has been in the building five minutes. the off-contract player market is horrendous at the moment and anything we're likely to sign will be depth. November 1 is when we'll see some movement happen. Liam Martin and Dylan Brown have been earmarked, no doubt Benji will be in the ear of both of them.

You'd think Panthers keep Martin after losing Kikau.

Wonder what their plans for maverick are

We just need that first domino to fall and others will follow ..

And just like that, we have a fallback position should Benji not work out.

I'm sure your sage advice will be leaped upon to further disparage the club and the efforts of Marshall, Farah and Sheens to turn the club around.

I understand why people feel like it's hopeless. I thought last year was rock bottom but we've managed to find a new low. thankfully there is change on the horizon. new coaches and conditioning staff, a new brand of footy, two of the best players in the competition and a number of youngsters banging down the door for first grade. while I don't expect anything of significance next year, we'll be a far improved side.

We went from a multiple premiership winning coach to the director of football hiring himself. It’s not surprising that good players with a career don’t want any part of that.
Sheens is the only coach that built the WT from nothing, while I agree that was 17 years ago, we tried different coaches and their performance cannot be compared with Sheens!
The only coach I would trust more than him is Bellamy.
And re the "MULTIPLE PREMIERSHIP WINNING COACH":
- he destroyed our defence (with Cleary we let in 1-2 tries per game against the Storm, Soufs, and Rorters) and did nothing with the attack!
- endlessly rotated the same mediocre players.
- reworded us the spoon after 3 years of going backwords!

I miss the days we were in with a chance of signing the latrells and such.
Even if it was only just us thinking we had a shot.
