Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Tedesco might have to be squeezed out of roosters unless he is willing to play on the wing for suaalli to play fullback next year. Suaalli is too much of a gun not to star.

Just read this about Manly in a SMH article

"The club should be looking at the lack of leadership, accountability, revolving door executive team and low football IQ on the board"

Sounds familiar...

In the same article they mention the roosters will need to lose teddy if they want to keep Suaalii.

@Demps - I’m telling ya….
It’s as obvious as teddys teeth!!

Coaches are always held accountable for performance first and foremost.
But you have to ask why an NRL club could not recruit/ attract a coach to take them on?
Our record in recruiting and retaining quality players gives little hope of being successful in the foreseeable future, and the first person that wears that is always the coach.
The biggest barrier to achieving success always starts and finishes with the quality of the squad - and ours in the eyes of many is not of a standard needed to be playing finals footy.
What you are saying pins a lot on Madge.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that recruiting decent quality proven NRL players is easier said than done for teams who have been struggling such as us.
Obviously the reason we went so hard for Ciraldo is because he has built a big profile and hoping that would attract quality players regardless of our results in recent years.
When that didn’t work, there were very few options available that could potentially attract some quality players, so obviously going back to Sheens with Benji the coach in waiting was as good as we could get in regards to being an attractive proposition for potential recruits.
The big issue is we all know over the past 5 years in particular, we have paid far too much for many players who have not gone close to living up to their price tag and it’s caused but issues for us in regards to managing the salary cap well.
Unfortunately this hasn’t changed and with our position now worse than ever, we will still have to pay well over the market value to get some decent quality NRL experienced players into our squad.
So what do we do, do we pay over for a quality prop such as Klemmer or an ageing Jordan McLean ?
Do we tempt the Bulldogs by offering to buy out the ridiculously priced contract for Tevita Pangai knowing our forward pack badly lacks the aggression he brings ?
Or do we roll the dice and offer well above the market value to try and tempt some young up and coming players such as Lindsay Smith (Panthers), Fletcher Baker or Egan Butcher (Roosters), to try and somehow break their contracts and sign with us ?
I’m my mind, there is no doubt when need to somehow create an aggressive forward pack who can give us a fair chance each week, unlike the powder puff forwards that have only been showing up once in every 3-4 games.

Absolutely. Juniors should mean local juniors developed right through from junior football to grade, not young players cherrypicked from other teams or localities.

It should also be contingent with each NRL club having a set number, say 30 to 40, of junior teams feeding into the NRL club.
All teams head outside their boundaries to bolster their pathways systems, we do it like everyone else. Although there is a difference we also plough mega dollars into fostering a junior league for all kids of all abilities. We just don’t focus on the elite. I remember many years ago we had a promising junior who we offered him 10g a year to sign for a couple of years. At the time that was a fair hunk of cash for a 16 year old. Anyway the Chooks came in and offered 80g a year and he was gone. The only good thing he ever kicked on.

Anyway this has been going on for decades and the current administration of the NRL will do what the other ones did….nothing

One of the huge Hopoates?

Just turned up to my son’s soccer game in singleton 4-6 years ago and the game prior to his the coach of away team abused referee and walked beside him all the way back to clubhouse 100m away. A lady from adjoining field they walked past got in between and walked with them 14/15yr(assuming) old ref
That's a disgrace. Big tough adult using power over a 14/15 year old kid. It makes my blood boil.
