Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Not a rant at all. I totally agree. My two granddaughters (aged 16 and 14) have played AFL for a couple of years and my grandson (aged 7) played his first season this year. I am really impressed with the way junior AFL is run. I took them all to a Swans game this year and they loved it.
I compare this to my last season of watching my youngest son play RL in the Parramatta JRL. My son was average size but he was totally dwarfed by the Polynesian players in opposing teams. He was playing under 16s and the thuggery was unbelievable. The young refs were abused and intimidated by spectators and coaching staff. The last game I saw was so bad for the brutality and thuggery by the other team and the mistreatment of the junior ref that I left at half-time and never watched another game.
I recently walked into a rugby league oval at Bomaderry to watch my grandkids play Under 6's. What stood out to me as I entered was the massive sign stating abuse would not be tolerated etc. I thought what have we become and does RL have a huge problem with behaviour on and off the field? I agree the massive size difference with polynesian kids was a problem, but didn't know there was a problem with thuggery. I wonder how things are with Junior soccer and AFL?

Having a high quality squad that contains superstar players within it will automatically make your CV look excellent as the results have a higher chance to follow, it's just how the world works.

The successful Teams all have something in common though - they let players play to their strengths & then structure things around this.

End of the day we need to measure coaches on delivering outcomes & reality is our structures this year have been the worst looking & totally disorganised like we have never seen before.

Cayless had a better CV than Gardiner coming from the Roosters but he is gone also because end of day they just didn't deliver.

When you come last & have been on a clear downward trend over the last few years it's very hard to quantify keeping the coaching & performance staff.
Gardiner and Cayless are also Maguire's assistants for NZ, which is why he appointed them at the Tigers. I think it's a matter of finishing cleaning the house of the entire Madge regime

All organisations are run by the board .They have the right to hire and fire the CEO. The chairman is elected by the board and conducts the meetings .
So I believe to start afresh we need a new board which may or may not include existing members.
The criteria for becoming a board member is that they must not identify themselves as either a Western suburbs member or a Balmain member
If when asked the question which one are you and if they answer NEITHER
I am a wests tigers member then providing they bring something to the table be it Business acumen or football management acumen .Then their in !
A rebuild to be successful must by definition change the formula ..
No more dinosaurs
I sound like a broken record, but I have been saying for years, the problem is the board. always has been.

I have four boys and each one of them played all 4 codes of football. I never saw any really bad behaviour in junior rugby, soccer or AFL but I did see it in junior RL in the Parramatta district.
In that last game I spoke about my son's team who were running well outside the top 4 played the undefeated top side. We scored about four tries in the first half and held the other team scoreless. The other team had 3 or 4 players sin-binned for out-an-out violence and the penalty count was about 10 - 1 our way. As the ref and touch judges left the field at half-time they were approached by the other team's coach and one other bloke. They were jostled and hassled all the way off the field. I left in disgust.
Apparently in the second half, the violence was still bad but not quite as bad as the first half and the penalty count was reversed. The other team scored 6 or 7 tries, held us scoreless and won easily.
I wrote a letter of complaint to the Parramatta district JRL but never got a reply.

Think it happens in a lot of kids sports. Parents can't control themselves

The Bulldogs have tied down local product Jackson Topine on a new two year deal. The backrower was off-contract at the end of the season but will now remain at the club until at least 2024.

The 21-year-old has played 11 top grade games since making his debut last year. (DT)
He would have been a good signing. We have no backrowers

Is there a Balmain Tigers Football club still running? As in a separate administration to the Wests Ashfield club.
I know Wests Ashfield support Balmain Junior reps financially but is there still a ‘business affiliated that is run separately’?
I'm not really sure. One of the WestsTigers board members is a director of Bslmain Tigers so I'm guessing there's something there.

Not nice to hear. It was no different when I was playing sadly.

The aggressive behaviour shown towards officials, other families and players by a section of spectators at junior league games was concerning.

NRL, ARL, NSWRL and QRL need to get serious about this.

Just turned up to my son’s soccer game in singleton 4-6 years ago and the game prior to his the coach of away team abused referee and walked beside him all the way back to clubhouse 100m away. A lady from adjoining field they walked past got in between and walked with them 14/15yr(assuming) old ref

It's horrible and it's a wonder any young people want to take on refereeing. Both my granddaughters play and umpire netball. Netball are really strict about player and spectator behaviour and protect young umpires from abuse.

The owners of the building will be Heworth who own the land and any building built on the site Wests Ashfield will own the Leagues Club that will be in the building. The League Club will be Wests Tigers branded.
How did Balmain lose the license, Did they sell out to Wests Ashfield ?
