Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I think Sheen / Benji have a plan and all this talk is talk to keep reporters off our tail. Everyone is looking over here and then BAM we sign a player from over there.
We are letting players go everywhere and we need players in return so there is a plan IMO but wont be announced to fans until signed and sealed..
Benji made a point about keeping things inhouse

Moses talk is coming out because they have a big game tomorrow night, like as if they are talking this week etc. It's a media beat up.

This says it all (below) for how the Cowboys turned things around. Its about the players putting in hard work. When ever there is talk about hard work at our club their are rumours of a players revolt. Players will only improve performance if they are called out and believe it's their responsibility to work harder. Any player can improve their fitness and tackle technique - but they as individuals have to do the extra work. Our blokes have been cruising in - and out - of this club for years and it shows in our performances.

“We did a lot of contact, we did a lot of tackling and we just made them do things that they didn’t want to do, day after day. At the moment, it’s showing that it worked,” he said.
“So, we needed to toughen our guys up mentally and physically. We challenged them day after day. We threw curve balls at them at different stages."

“We got them in really early most mornings. To beat the heat and make them a little bit uncomfortable about time management; getting out of bed and preparing for training."
Hardly says it all. They have probably the games best forward injury free after a couple of injury effected years. Theyve brought through 3 of the best young forwards in the game, one of which is a generational talent, in Nanai, Gilbert and Neame. A 4th in Cotter has always shown glimpses of his ability but struggled to remain healthy before this year and is now more suited to the game than ever. With the young talent coming through the likes of MacLean and Hess are able to thrive given they have others to share the work load.
Finally they recruited a very good centre in Hiku to sure up one edge and have a star back in Holmes doing a job the job on the other.
No doubt hard work played a vital role, but the talent of their roster can not be ignored.

Unfortunately u can't just sit in silence. The media plays a big part in footy these days.
In defence of the Tigers, Sheens only stated that we were interested in Munster (so is everyone). Tigers haven't said anything officially about Moses - that was leaked.

As I have been told, if you haven't heard it directly from the club, it's almost certainly a leak by the player manager to drive up prices.

Tigers are dumb for even trying to get Mitch Moses, or any player managed by Isaac Moses.

You'd think WT have learned their lesson after Isaac Moses f****d us by losing us teddy, moses etc, and worst of all being left with brooks and paying him as much as they are on.

Unfortunately we don’t have the IQ to land a player like Jack Welsby 😂 I understand he is contracted through to 24 at St Helens? His current coach has signed with the new club, Brisbane Dolphins.
Yes, he is contracted. But with the money NRL clubs have at their disposal I think pretty much anyone is available. We just can’t compete. I’d rather not see him leave but he’s waaaaay too good for our competition and I’d enjoy seeing him tearing it up at WT before the dreaded Storm or the Bunnies or the Dogs. As an aside, his scrum half partner, Lewis Dodd, is another kid age 20/21 who is the best talent I’ve seen in that position in a long, long time. He picked up a nasty injury mid-season but his rehab is going fine and I KNOW he has his sights firmly set on the NRL. He came over with St. Helens academy to Australia a couple of years ago and was the easily the best player on the pitch when they faced off against Penrith’s juniors - many of whom are now in the first team squad. Neither would be for next season. But definitely worth setting up early dialogue because that’s how the Bunnies got Burgess and the Bulldogs got Graham.

If you want an idea of how Welsby plays - check out the hit he put on the Salford half in the semi-final last week (it’s available on twitter). He got hauled up before the disciplinary for what I felt was a perfect shot but thankfully was let off. You just don’t see too many stand-offs/fullbacks who average five tackle busts a game, two or three assists, a pair of tries, hit like a backrow forward and turn it up in big games. And he hasn’t even got his grown man body yet. Kid is special.

Tapau and Gavet ploddish, yeah right
They were pretty heavily overrated by us …

There’s a reason why Gavet has played for about 50 different clubs in his career, and well Taupau peaked about 5 years ago but was very inconsistent

One forward I wish we kept, can’t remember what happened exactly was Ben Murdoch Masila … huge lump of a lad

Gavet - journeyman who played 12 games for us 😂

Tapau has flipper hands

Brooks got rookie of the year anyway.

Dumb argument that one.

He’s always had shit forward packs.

Talent will get you so far in the NRL but only hard work will give you impetus to compete at a level to succeed.
The strength of any forward pack is built on the back of fitness and a will to win, and that can only come about through hard work and attitude. If the players don't have the desire or will to put in the hard work then they will not get results. So it that sense it does say it all.

Went to England and came home to the Warriors last year I believe.

Not much choice

I recall him being fairly injury prone to start his career - maybe that’s why we released him

Seen him play for Tonga a couple years back and he was a handful.

Agree. The only thing publicly said by WT has been there will be a clean out and that is happening. Not only with players not being offered new contracts but others encouraged to try their luck elsewhere. What the final retained squad will be will become clearer after 1 November. \Then of course there is the task of filling vacant spots- both from within and, the always difficult task to date for WT, of recruitment from outside. Mind you the approach of going to ESL for a few of the outside recruitment spots might just be the right step to bypass player and player manager attitudes. Although I think with some work WT can have a good story to tell with lifestyle, and being part of building something.

Yeah we sent him to Penrith where he never fit in so he went to England where he was a star.

He was the young buck when we last had a competitive forward pack.

Back when we had Ellis, Keithy, Heino, Fulton to learn from.

Now who have we got ? Musgrove ?

Clubs cooked

His best mate suicided at the club…
Another reason we went down from 2013..
A lot of those boys (Marika, Sitaleki, BMM, Asipeli etc.) were a little lost after that - new coach etc probably didn’t help.

Read says its great the tigers are aiming high re Munster and Moses?
First of all that's got zero to do with 2023 season .Secondly its unlikely to succeed . Fact our current squad for 2023 is bottom 4 bound and without some really clever additions for next season we might be in a head to head battle with the dolphins for a wooden trophy . Just about every tiger who has another club interested seems to go .
If we are serious about next year we need 3 forwards and 2 centers
If The best of Nrl are locked up for 2023 are we scouring and spotting fresh talent in Qld cup ,Nsw cup ( top sides) in PNG or where ever . The Storm have a knack for finding relatively unknown players who display that special x factor and good character and a year later we are talking about new stars
We on the other hands rummage thru all the unsigned 30 + year olds who are after 1 or 2 more years of reasonable salary .
We also jump to trying to lure a couple of superstars and even offering overs its still a tough sell and unlikely
So far exits plenty incoming zero
If Tims plan is one more year at the bottom and progress 2024 then I can't accept that ! I'm fed up with everyone apon finding out im a tigers fan telling me that they feel sorry for me

Weighed 130kg plus as a Keebra Park teenager. Left club when of his mates offed himself.
Best defensive play I can remember was Minicello on BMM. One on one full tilt on the try line. Stopped him front on and came away with the ball before BMM knew what happened.
