Isaiah Papali’i #265

We all saw the "compassionate grounds" bit coming..having said that, his partner is 36 and at the very tail end of her career,so most couples in this situation wld simply accept reality plus the fact hes making $600k pa and she shld join him over here.
That wld be normal behaviour, and he knew all the above when he signed...theres nothing new
Personally,Id definitely stand him down to set a new norm for WTs and draw a definitive line in the sand, and possibly at the end of the first year Id maybe give him an option to buy out the last 2 years of his contract
Our Chairman does this stuff for a living and is better placed than any of us on these matters, tho when it comes to footy IQ...?
Having said that.. whatever we do,DONT let IP off the hook without major pain to his wallet and reputation as a deterrent to others going forward

Bottom line is it is fairly obvious he does not want to come.

It is not Parramatta also...it is NZ.

You don't need to be Einstein to work out the multiple fluff pieces in today's media about his partner have been released to set up the whole "lovebirds want to be together / denied for years by covid"...she has said she can't leave NZ.

This has nothing to do with Parra.

Will place us in a very tough spot...basically his camp are going to run the whole "just want to be together / start a family / family is everything" line.

Personally, I'd be proactive and tell NZ they can have him but we want a massive bounty.

Curran + the choice of two of their best junior outside backs.
Yeh I get this feeling too.

If we pay him, whether he plays or not, that would be money off the cap. I must admit he's carried on with this garbage longer than I thought he would. He is now seriously disrespecting the club. The are two reasons why I think we'll play hardball this time where we didn't with Moses, Matterson, Aloiai etc, the first is Sheens. Sheens is a tough man and won't allow himself to be stood over by the media, a player or a manager. The second is our credibility. Despite what's gone on in the past, if we let Pap go this time, we could never be confident again that a player who signs will actually come. Why woiuldn't players sign with WT and then say to other clubs "if you want me to renege on the WT deal, you'll need to pay me more than the WT contract".
Very sensible post.

This would be an important test for our esteemed chairman. He has down very badly on his previous tests with Wests tigers.

Lee has been a complete failure on every club issue where he has been publicly involved,i am not saying it is all his fault but he is a common factor and continues to highlight how inept our management is.
To be fair i doubt if a change in the chairman would make the slightest difference as he is just the talking head representing the unrepresentative and largely unelected swill that is known as the board. The club has to change and perhaps this issue (paps) could be the catalyst in making the club at least semi professional instead of completely amateur as it appears to be now.

There is no way we can roll over here. No way. We didn't pay crazy money for the bloke, so yes, we would have an impact on the cap. But far less than packer or Reynolds caused over the last few years.

I'm so pissed with this guy. Bring him, have him choose to ride the pine and destroy his own career. Media will back us on this one.

Pascoe and lee better not talk a big game again here and roll over. Dead set sick of our weak admin. Time to show we have a spine.

She’s 22. She has been travelling over, they just need to work it out.

Probably. But I don’t care we need to take the hit once to stop these pea hearts. It should have been done when that FDH Moses tanked. Should have sat his ass In reserve grade for the rest of the year and put it in the media that he is there becoz he’s a tanking prick. Ruin his rep.
Maybe we would not have this happening if we showed so balls long ago.

We can't roll over and just play to his hands - especially if he has disrespected the club in the process... this will just allow anyone to feel the need to sign a contract with us on overs and then play to a high standard before they arrive and leave justifying there price tag to a "big club". We need to take a stand against this and it seems we have the NRL's support too.

Getting Papa on 600k a year is a bargain and he knows that hence why he wants to leave so badly

If papa was to handle this whole thing respectfully, publicly commit and not make jokes ala last night in our expense - with the goal to move to NZ on compassionate grounds then I'd ask for Curren and a young gun and wouldn't be too upset with that outcome - but the way he has handled this should reassure our position that we won't be taken as a joke and he'll report to preseason and have to face the playing roster of the squad he has pubically taken the piss out of...

X2

Wouldnt mind betting this is why we havent heard from that Pom bloke in a while, lots of moving parts happening in the background with this fool. Probably cant say anything about it that or theres absolutely nothing happening which would be a bit of a concern in itself.
