...ahead of you....
My missus cut her hand at work yesterday,. She's OK nothing serious but it's put her off work for 5 days.

She did an incident report yesterday and went to the doctor today, told the Dr it happened at work and they immediately started the workers comp process and asked her for the insurance co and claim number which she didn't know.. .. She was surprised when the bulk billing Dr charged her $250+ for the consult.
She called her supervisor for the claim number and insurance co.... The supervisor said she only needed a medical certificate... But even from my experience as soon as you tell a Dr it's a work injury they start the WC process

It sounds like her employer is trying to not have it WC...

She called the supervisor who said he's going to send her another contact at work to deal with this... Been several hours now and nothing

I've told her if her employer doesn't provide the details the Dr needs she should go back to the Dr and advise them.. The $250 is a big Whack out of the budget right now at school holidays time and I'm wondering if they'll charge her again if she has to go back to the Dr.

I don't wanna name the company she works for but they are not good, they employ a lot of migrants and seem to use their employees naivety to their advantage

Sounds sus mate

As far as I'm aware the doctors bill should be totally covered by get employer

Go on the fair work Australia website

You can pose a question to them and they will respond with great advice

If the Dr didn't have the insurer and claim number when he treated your wife i think he can charge her for his services. She will need to keep all receipts to give to the insurer for reimbursement. Should check with Medicare if you can be reimbused the medicare amount until the insurance kicks in. Make sure she gets it through WC in case any complications relating to the injury occur down the track. Hopefully that won't occur.

I was a shift supervisor and the minute anyone injured themselves at work even a minor cut (Band-Aid) we had to fill in an incident report.
Any injury beyond that it was straight to the ED at hospital, we also had to notify the safety officer no matter what time.
They would notify the insurance company straight away.
Not one employee was a cent out of pocket.
Your wife’s company is leaving themselves open for huge fines and litigation.
Any serious incident Workcover was notify asap.
We had a few incident where ambulance was called and the Police even attended.

Which state are we talking about?
Does your wife have a copy of the accident report from the employer?

NSW...
All they did last night was taken a photo of her injury and what caused it (sharp soap dispenser in a washroom) and said "they would fill in the report"
I thought she said last night they (her and someone authorised) did a report but she meant that someone would do the report without her even being there... I told her just now that's not how its supposed to be done, safety officer will ask the injured worker questions in person 🙄

I can see this is going to be a drama and a headache

If the employer isn’t moving fast enough for your liking, contact Icare on 134422.

Chances are it is just laziness from management. The company should at the very least immediately reimburse and pay expenses until the insurance is sorted

Work in insurance
The Practice Manager's at the Medical Centres set a $250 fee normally now the catch is if your wife pays that then the nominal insurer likely icare however could be another AP then she will only be reimbursed the gazetted rate e.g. $140
You are better going to a gp who is not.going to charge a one off fee for workers comp not all practices do that it is a cash grab on there behalf.
Obviously once you have a certificate the claim can get lodged with the nominal insurer
If you want to pm me I am happy to talk you through it

Ambulance is covered under gazetted fees private medical practices often charge an initial fee for workers compensation that is above the gazetted fee, if you pay that you will not get it reimbursed from the nominal insurer
You are better either going to a company preferred GP initially and obtaining a certificate that the employer would cover e.g. they don't charge the fee and then changing GP's to your family Doctor after the initial certificate.
This is a case of a greedy medical practice putting the one off fee
