Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Doesn't Benchy think he is the best thing since sliced bread ....big interview from memory

A ball players dream is a runner who can shift in or out last second to hit the hole as the ball is being passed and sometimes after the ball has been passed. Tommy did this for Benji against Parra one day and it was so natural to him. I think Marshall will see this a huge weapon as an edge backrower and will be keen to explore this

The Dolphins are targeting Parramatta’s grand-final halves Mitchell Moses and Dylan Brown as pressure builds on super coach Wayne Bennett to land a marquee signing for the NRL’s 17th team.

News Corp can reveal Dolphins bosses have earmarked Moses or Brown as Plan B marquee recruits for 2024 in the wake of Cameron Munster’s decision to stay loyal to the Storm.

But the Dolphins are facing a battle for Moses, with the Bulldogs — armed with a $7 million recruitment war chest — launching a multimillion-dollar poaching bid for the Parramatta playmaker.

Moses is contracted to the Eels until the end of next season but has indicated he will join around 200 players to head to free agency from November 1 – opening the door for a raft of suitors, including the Dolphins and Bulldogs, to strike.

Moses is on $900,000 at Parramatta, while his scrumbase partner Brown is on $850,000, and the Eels will come under enormous pressure to upgrade and extend their star halves under the salary cap.

The Bulldogs have just eight contracted players on their books at this stage for the 2024 season, giving them several millions of dollars in salary-cap space to blow the Eels out of the water for Moses, having already poached Parramatta hooker Reed Mahoney. (DT)

Why, he is a half who wants to play half, yet we feel the need to push him to lock to accommodate a bloke who has had 9 seasons to stake his case and failed

Brooks and Doueihi. The 9 seasons to me is irrelevant. Who is going to perform better.

I suppose you can just delay the decision. Brooks and Doueihi are both signed up next season but then they are gonski. Re-sign Hastings, see if Faagutu comes on and then adjust.

That means no long term signings for Brooks and Doueihi. You pick one.

If he is I don't see why we bother playing Hastings at 13. He was our best half. Why not let the other guys prove who should get the 6 spot. Brooks was playing as a 6 anyway.
Hastings went well at 13 but Faagutu (I read) is possibly the best junior out of Qld for a long time. I doubt Sheens views Hastings at a half.

Yes, Matamua is very impressive for such a young player. The way he handled his debut in the NRL was very level headed.
I thought he was outstanding for NSW in the under 19s origin. Distributing, offloading, running, defence, work rate - he did it all. I know it was only under 19s and not first grade but for me it backed up all of the wraps he has been receiving.

Our team in a couple of years could be very different to what it is now. In many ways, the style of football to be played may well dictate the type of player in the side especially in the crucial positions. Laurie at 6 if we can get Staines excites me.

To me, the only time we looked genuinely threatening in attack was when we had Brooks and Doueihi in the halves and Hastings at lock. I feel sorry for Hastings not playing the position he wants, but I think it's best for the team right now.
