Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I take your point that whole of team team must come first, but if Hastings has strong views about his value in certain positions, we should listen with intent.

Plus he deserves an upgrade in other respects.

We could bribe him out of the halves perhaps?

But this nonsense of Brooksy turning the corner…
The issue is all our halves have major weaknesses, that's why we looked better when we played 3. It takes 3 guys to get the output we need to be getting from 2.

Some merit there but..

Give me a willing and competent forward pack and I’ll give you the finals.

Yr absolutely right..all of our halves have shortcomings.
But we dont need 3 of em at $600k + ,so one (or more)has to go.Plus we need more size and power at 13 than Hastings offers
Hastings is the key playmaker..a critical capability.. he can kick and he can tackle. But hes slow
Douhi can break a tackle, not a great passer of the ball, can kick, but cant reliably defend
Brooks can definitely defend, but offers very little in attack..and kicking very ordinary
So if were looking at a 6 or 7,only Hastings ticks the key boxes, slow that he may be
If were looking at a centre,,Douhi can do a job if he so chooses, but defence is a big issue
If we need a small back rower, then Brooks...yes,that doesnt work I know.Neither does he

And the second half of this year. 1 from 12 after he was sacked.
You and a few others seem intent on lashing yourself to the mast of the SS Madge as it turned turtle and through gasps for air attempt to convince us it is a steady ship. You blame the salvage crew employed to recover the ship when we are treading water pending a righting of the ship. I hope to find our sea legs shortly. All out of sea-faring analogies.

We were most of the time. Tigers finally recruited a couple of first graders - to play under Madge, then they knifed him before he had the benefit of them in the team.
We were WHAT most of the time? And so you're telling me, Papali'i and Korisau watched the Madge coached Tigers and thought, "this is who I want to play for?" You think Api chose Madge over Cleary? There are more to these signings than simply 'wanting to play under madge.' If he was such an attractive prospect to play under, why did he sign no one in his first 3 years?

Apologies, poorly articulated. We have been poor most if the time and I think it was squad quality related rather than just the coach.

I have no idea why those two signed for tigers but they certainly didn’t sign to play for Sheens or Marshal. They weren’t an option then.

The same reason why Packer Matulino Reynolds Leilua and all the other dud risky signings we made - Money.
The difference with Papalii and Api K they are coming off the best year of their career form wise -and love or hate Maguire - for that we can be hopeful that they will be better value signings than the other disasters.

The key to resigning Hastings is what position he wants to play.

A number of clubs would love to have an organiser / on field leader like him.

Critical signature for the Tigers.
Though I tend to agree that if Hastings is not happy at lock than he will look elsewhere, what other clubs would be interested?
Really only Bulldogs and Knights that would be looking for a halfback. And Dogs wont be in the market if they get Sullivan.

Because Cleary had signed his expensive turkeys

I don’t know what you’re on today Paws but the results speak from themselves. Before we sacked Madge we beat the grand finalist and the preliminary finalist. Since Sheens took over we’ve won 1 game.

You call it steadying the ship, nothing steadier than going from 13th to 4 points behind the second last team and getting in the record books for the biggest loss in our history.

If this is the salvage crew, I’ll take my chances with the sharks!

Besides, they all seemed happy piping Madge aboard.

Captain Madge To Save Us
And big fat Harto too
The board is happy as Popeye
With Pascoe and it’s crew

Ahoy there you scrubbers
I see land ahead
Oh ffs it’s Tim and GTA
You can tell by their big old heads

One club to rule them all
Out on the seven seas
So long we win this naval war
And bring management to its knees.

Maybe, though I am not convinced on any of your three points, particularly the latter pair. More important for mine is that WT sign him and others for the positions that the club requires them, along with being at the correct remuneration.

Our teams have been mostly terrible for a decade and working from demountables for a couple of years, but the club now has an absolutely stunning COE, balanced books and stadium contracts coming to an end.

The spoon is a heavy load, still, we have shed a (IMO stifling) coach and two big signings are arriving post world cup, so I look forward to improvements year on year in the near future. Beginning with a big step out of the bottom quarter in the 2023 season.
