Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Wallaby’s have and always will suck he would fit right in
That moment when he broke through three English tacklers and then dropped the ball with no one near him was embarrassing. Spent much of the game sauntering round like he owned the place.

Don’t forget how young this kid is. Still looked unstoppable at times. In 2 years you would have to think he’s the games biggest star.
He's got immense talent. No question. But for me either he or his agent are just a bit too interested in the business side of things. Got to remember what got you to the position you are at. Because the moment you allow off-the-field matters to encroach on your game - you're done.

If there's one thing I've learned about money it is that more of it doesn't necessarily mean a better competition. I saw what happened in the SL over here when millions were injected into the game by Murdoch and it all went into the back pockets of some very ordinary players. To use the words of Alex Ferguson - there are too many "Big Time Charlies" in the sport. I also think adding more teams to the competition can only have a detrimental effects. You are spreading the talent pool too thin.

It's more complex than just throwing money at it isn't it. The talent pool is already way too thin.

Not just that - The kid oozes application...
Anyone who thinks they're posting a news scoop on his deficiencies
- I think he'd be very well aware of what they are, and won't need any prompting to
work on them.

This kid has been training with first grade since he was 16... There's a reason for that.
He hasn't got a passing game yet because he doesn't need it / hasn't learned it out on the wing...

He will

This is another good point. When people go for the money I think they can forget about trying to master their art/sport.

I think the money should be a side point. You'll get paid big bucks if you are talented and you try and become the best player you can be.

I don't know if anyone knows Kyrie Irving. I'm pretty sure he was born in Australia or is eligible to be Australian but it's beside the point. He is one of the most talented basketball players in the world and his career has gone to great heights but in some ways he his career is a failure because he could have done a lot more.

After months of speculation, it can be revealed the 2023 salary cap will be at least $11 million, well above the projected $10.4m - giving rise to the prospect of the NRL’s first $1.5 million player. (DT)
This is only a bad thing for the tigers. Helps keep stronger squads together whilst we continue to increasingly over play for fringe first graders.

For eg, Gould probably knew this already when they signed a heap of players up with no room lol

He's a very weird player because at various points in a game he'll appear in the fullback, stand-off, loose forward and the centre position. And he's usually the best player in all of them. As has been mentioned - highly unorthodox. Scares defenders because he can go off script at any point. Modern coaches hate those guys because you can't set a pattern to shut them down. Just wait till he gets his man body because he's only just 21. Not physically mature. He'll be another Wighton - but with better hands.

Those players Sheens LOVES.

@batboy said a while back, having your props not have the same body shape.

Mix it up for the opposition defence.
It makes a lot of sense.

A lot of successful clubs have used this format in the past....

I think of a Petero x Webke/ Carrol type pairing.

This is very much achievable for us...

Klemmer and Twal to start
Pole and Stefano off the bench
Maybe Blore and Leinu as a punching rotation.

Different sizes, different shapes.
Keep the opposition guessing.

Klemmer & Stef got that wall imposing build- like Petero.
Leinu & Pole more wombat, wrecking ball, stocky builds - like Webke, Tony...
Twal and Blore - athletic, strong.

Penrith do this well JFH and Leota.

One bad year doesn’t mean shit. The argument is Brooks has played 9 seasons with 1 club and hasn’t even lead them to finals footy. Cleary in his first year at 18 less experience than Brooks did it in his first year. He’s already achieved more than Brooks has in his first year in the NRL and he’s 4 years younger than Brooks.
Just pointing out a flaw in your argument. No doubt Cleary is a better halfback - he is a better halfback than 15 other first grade halves and has been for a few years now. Hardly a fair comparison.

Oh mate, if only. I wish I could live in the blissful ignorance and stupidity of a Brooks fan but I happen to have more than two brain cells.
Could

Now why would Brooks' management be talking to Newcastle when they aren't allowed to negotiate with him until November 1? Maybe he has permission from the club?
How many times does it need to be said on here that talking to a club prior to Nov 1 is fine - they can talk to a club 3 years out if they want to. Its just that no formal contract offer can be made. Also your source ( a DT reporter 😆 ) even says WT want to keep Brooks and Sheens has shown no inclination to let him go. I've no doubt that Newcastle will probably offer him a contract come Nov 1 but that will be from 2024 onwards.

And don't forgot Isaiah Yeo ...and that forward pack .....
and watching Luai last night proves he isn't that good as well

Can you believe that Matt Parish allegedly got down to the last 3 when we signed Taylor ......yikes

Well it was mentioned by the Pom the other day, Staines wants a longer term deal and we, at this stage, are not prepared to give him that.
And Peachy, what exactly do we do with him if we can’t get rid of him. He could take up a VIP roster position , a very tricky one.
But I do get and acknowledge your point about fast change.
With May's injury in RLWC i'm not sure penriff would be letting go of Staines just yet.

I think he plays a classic FB role - pops up anywhere in the backline, backs up most linebreaks , good passing and short kicking game and can defend 1 on 1. Even at 5/8 for England he still played all over the field similar to Teddy for Aust.
