Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'll give my assessment even though I don't bag Brooks.

Brooks isn't a great organizer in the middle of the park. He has his moments there. I remember him putting Stef over with a beautiful pass.

Hastings is significantly better in this area of the game.

Brooks to me is at his best as a running 6. So it's more about comparing Brooks to Doueihi.

I think moving Hastings to 13 is about fitting Doueihi and Brooks into the team as they are both better running 6's.
think the plan is to hopefully keep Hastings as a 13 and Sheens to have 2 running five eigth's in Brooks and douhie
Behind a big pack it will be very difficult to defend against

I wonder if Nathan Cleary was at WT there would be all this debate about whether he is fast enough. I'd argue Doueihi is faster than the 2 Kangaroo 7s (definitely faster than DCE as has been proven).

Hastings is quick between the ears which Brooks is not. I'd suggest that's more important than a 7.

IMO we are no worse off with Hastings at 7 and Doeuihi/Laurie fighting out 6 in 2023.

For 2024, go out and try to get Moses, Brown or the Storm superstar coming through (Pezet).

So who is this good 7 we have - i'm guessing you mean Hastings who would have to be the slowest half in the comp. I find it hard to believe that those who bag Brooks somehow think that Hastings is the answer at 7.
How many games did we win this year with Brooks at 7? How many games did we win this year with Hastings at 7?

There is your answer. They're playing football games, not going to the Olympics.

I saw a tonne of "Could"s in that article
Direct text....

Newcastle could be set to finally land prized target Luke Brooks
he could partner Kalyn Ponga in the halves
Rothfield suggested the Tigers could be willing to let Brooks go
He could train the offseason to play specialist halfback (Hastings)

It's basically a suggestion.....

Yeh agitating

Doubtful - As we'd have a superior half.
Hastings and Doueihi have done nothing to show they're superior to Brooks.
Hastings get swallowed by defence so quickly he can barely get to his kick...
He'll need to stand way deeper than he does, And have better forwards...

Anyhow, No one has mentioned out all all 4 potential halves - Which ones actually want to stay past the current contract?

I don’t think we should do that as much as I think Brooks is done with us and vice versa. They either take him full freight or he stays, we let Madden go we want to play Hastings at 13. We’re not sure if Doueihi is a 5/8 or whether Laurie can slot in. The Klemmer deal isn’t dependent on Brooks apparently so if the knights want him as much as they profess to pay him his dues.
Who pays Brooks $1.1 million a year, no club that's who, we need to take our medicine and cut our losses with Klemmer coming onboard

We can have
Tedesco
To'o
Manu
Trbojevic
Tupou
Munster
Cleary

but with our current forwards, it means nothing, zilch, nada!

I think this is the plan at this point as well. It might work. The problem is we came dead last so we need a massive turnaround.

We won't know how it turns out until next season finishes.

The same as those who chose to read it and claim there is substance to the article. Phil Rothfield must laugh at it.

I think we can state though that Brooks is being targeted by Newcastle.

That is miles off Brooks leaving. A lot can happen up until the season actually starting.

We have Papali'i' and Koroisau plus there are rumours of Klemmer and UK forward(s), potentially life becomes much easier for our halfback. With the style of football to be played and Sheens and Benji wanting fast halves, what would you think?

No one was brave enough to attach their name to it.

At least Rothfilth and Pooper have generated something to talk about on NRL360 tonight.

I get the same impression. The situation can change though. I actually think Newcastle want Brooks and we are a mess and trying to figure things out.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Brooks go.
