2022 RLWC

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis said recently that players could sue for damages regarding the tiny surrounds of the playing area after James Tedesco ploughed into a camera.
This is one of my pet hates here in Australia where quiet often you see players running into cameramen and fences like at LO.
In the UK it's worse because they have tiny in goals and no room to move...cra azeee mon
Spoken like a true panty crumpler

He was a big help... they only got pumped by 60 or so
Italy did beat Scotland.
If you look on paper Fiji has NRL players (some real quality as well) in the side compared to hardly any NRL experience (Brown was a reggie player before the RLWC). It’s men playing boys.

Now I just watched the various overnight WC highlights and blow me down, API playing 5/8 for Fiji, making breaks and setting up supports .
Is this another twist in the tail(tale) for next year.
JH 7, AK6.

Should’ve just made it a Tri- series
Australia
NZ
England

The rest are a waste of time
There will be plenty of time for the big boys down the track. Tempo will lift in 1/4s and semis.
Good to expand the game into foreign fields and a bit of fun to watch.
I remember when they said Sri Lanka were going to play major cricket matches. The world said a joke but they have developed.
I reckon it would be great to pop into a NJL(National Jamaica League) game whilst on hols in the West Indies.

The RLWC is such a dud and farce….minows getting flogged by cricket scores and celebrating like they won the event just because they scored a try….id love to see the ratings….not more than a few die hard s watching I’m sure

I never bother watching the tier 1 nations play the minnows, but the minnows playing each other is good to watch. And I like watching the mid tier nations like PNG and France, they are slowly getting better.

Does anyone think that the WC will actually promote International Rugby League?

Now I've never been to countries like Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, PNG etc but those who have, do you think they can contribute financially to the game?

I think we need to accept that Rugby League is a predominantly Sydney based game and nothing more. Maybe eventually it might get popular in Perth and other parts of Australia but international is a big stretch IMO.

People playing for random countries with 1/8 heritage or 1/16 heritage is making a mockery of their cultural heritage. Let's take even the emotion out of it, but financially Australia has been the country that developed most of its talent so playing for Australia should be the pinnacle. I don't follow much of the American sports but with Basketball for eg, those players who don't make the national team, do they play for other nations (I'm sure many of them would have African/Mexican/Central American heritages).

It all just feels forced.

Maybe, but I spent 20 years travelling to all those islands (and more) and whilst their economies are not overly strong they love their footy( both league and union) and are very proud of their involvement.
If you haven’t noticed 70% of our players have island heritage so whilst what you say is correct in one way, it’s wrong in another.
You also have to realise that by including them, we also gain some political mileage in what has becoming a sensitive part of the world.
I’m sure you saw the PMX111 game where it looked like Albo was honouring the US president not the PNG PM.
Read your newspapers and see why that was so, as well as possibly including them in the NRL. The World Cup also contributes in that way.
Now I am a WASP but can understand.
The 1/8 and 1/16 mixes I get so no argument there and it does stretch the imagination.

I personally don't think that has much to do with us promoting games in those countries.

Many of these guys are born in Western Sydney, around Brisbane or NZ. No offence to the other countries but they haven't got much to do with developing these guys. Them playing 1-2 gmes a year for their heritage countries isn't going to do much. NRL could take a different stead and put crap loads of money in the grassroots of those countriesl, conducting coaching clinics and instilling Rugby League in schools.

Now I was born overseas and am very proud of my heritage, but if my kids wanted to represent their country of heritage over Australia, I wouldn't be too happy with them.

Pretty sure the minimum requirements is a grand parent, so the 1/16 claim is a bit cynical. I think you'll find that players with a chance to represent their grand parents heritage will be very proud and emotionally invested.

If that doesn't sway the argument, consider that covid has couped us up for 2 yrs so a chance to travel free for a young guy is too good to knock back.
OK i retract the 1/16. That takes it back to grandparents.
