The Wests Tigers Lament Thread

Imagine the feeling of disengagement when Wests Tigers sign a promising junior and he is shipped off to play with Western Suburbs Magpies? Or Balmain?
I could be wrong, but I’m convinced a pathway, or any succession plan, would become more established if it were seamless.
The reason us old magpies like a few teams in our old name whenever anybody including the media mention the team it's usually the tigers the wests part gets the flick.I bet the old balmain boys are quite happy with that

Oh what bullshit... Go have a cry... If that's an issue for you - you have problems

No I don't think it's good to say, but at the game when you shout out, I say tigers, you say wests, it doesn't matter cause we're the Weststigers 👍after the game we should say Weststigers, I'll be mindful of that in the future 🙂

I grew up in Birchgrove.
A Balmain TIger since 1950 then 50 years later I found my team was no longer the Balmain Tigers but due to the
NRL ISSUING A DIRECTIVE TO WEST AND BALMAIN, WE HAD TO AMALGAMATE AS THE WEST TIGERS.
I, like most Balmain boy's & Gal's we were very happy with this outcome as west were always our second team anyway,
and in these last 23 years ive always been very happy that my team was now the West Tigers. And I resent the different team, called WEST PLAYING AS MY TEAM, IT IS NOT, WEST TIGERS IS MY TEAM.
AND lets face the fact that had the Tigers not amalgamated with West and done what
Dennis Fitsgerald of Parramatta wanted.
for the Balmain Tigers to join them, then West's would no longer exist.
Why is it so hard for you west supporters to let go of the past, and accept your team is West Tigers
Not West.
it's Wests Tigers.:love::love:

You can actually see what the outcome of our club is going to be, eventually the Tiger side of the is going to be cancelled out,

AND THE NEW NAME OF THE TEAM WILL SIMPLY BE WEST MAGPIES BLACK AND WHITE.

THE NEW NAMES FOR ALL THE CLUBS,
WILL BE.

WESTERN SUBURBS LEAGUES CLUBS LTD.

Really not relevant for this thread, please take it elsewhere mate.

It will always be that way old mate, and it’s not working while we focus on the differences of each tribe as opposed to commonality.
The question in my mind is when will the club identify itself as a club, rather than 2 clubs with an element of mistrust in each?
I once thought maybe a generation?
The recent story of the Australian Netball team is a reminder of how certain elements of cultural change seem to take forever. Donnell Wallam was born 10 years after Lang Hancock’s 1984 tv interview.

Team is referred to as Wests plenty (Don't you worry)
The difference is absolutely no one winces when it's simply called Wests

Had they not tagged an “S” on the end it would have been easier to pronounce. It requires 2 expulsions of air with teeth virtually clamped shut. ‘Tigers’ on the other hand is far from a tongue twister.

I’ve said this before but I don’t think it’ll be this way for as long as you think.

As a 20-year-old who was born after the merger, the Western Suburbs and Balmain thing means absolutely nothing to anyone my age or younger.

Completely different to the netball thing in my opinion, it literally just never comes up because all we’ve ever known is one club.

Hey there Dennis . . . .. when those from the Wests side of things bring up stuff like this, they are told to grow up and get over it.
If you want to be selective, let me show you what selective can sound like:
The Magpies side of the merger has never been fairly represented. Fact.
In the general media, the team is mostly referred to as the Tigers. Fact.
And lets face the fact that if not for the WESTS Ashfield club generously paying Balmain's debts, Balmain would be bankrupt. WESTS generously gave them a bail out, and a voice on the board. For zero economic gain. Balmain could not meet their financial contractual obligations to the merger, remember ?
Why is it so hard for you Balmain supporters to properly respect and acknowledge what WESTS Ashfield so graciously did for your club ?

Personally Dennis, I've been happy with the merger since it still gave me a team to support.
Us older blokes have a lot more skin invested, and so are probably the ones that get narky about it. I've got a dozen WT jerseys, and only 2 Magpies jerseys.
But let's be fair here mate. It's a bit rank to pull out personal opinion of what might have happened 23 years ago, while conveniently forgetting to acknowledge that Wests Ashfield saved Balmain's back side a few years ago. They could insist that all junior teams be Wests Magpies branded, but they don't. It is their money, after all. You shouldn't resent a team playing as WESTS, because, you know . . . the bills.
I'm expecting the standard backlash from this post. But before you all go nuts, please look at the post that I'm directly replying to. Please look at the quotes that I'm directly replying to.
Just trying to even up the ledger.
Now you can go nuts . . . .

Time to get off the crack pipe.

I believe someone was talking about why Jimmy Jack left the Magpies. Happy was saying the threat of wests being booted would have played a part.
That’s not correct.
Jack left Wests at the end of 1981.The club had at that stage played finals, three of the previous four years and they’d just won the Reserve Grade premiership.
The Magpies continued on to make the semis again in 1982 before the shit started to hit the fan halfway through the following season.
