Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

My concern is that we are building for 2024 and beyond, and we have our cap space and roster then clogged with aged underperformers. Obviously we need to have a reasonable squad for 2023.
otherwise sponsorship and our fan base will fall away, but the balance is critical going forward, .
I'm wary of buy now,pay later schemes.
The club has said this
I don't believe all these good forwards are being signed so Hastings can play 7. Sheens and Benji want a quick running pair of halves and Hastings ain't it.
neither is brooks by accounts

Every team needs an Alex Twal? We've got a better one - Joe Ofahengaue...
We don't need 2 of them.

I really like Twal as a player but he is going to struggle to make the team if we have a good run of injuries and Hastings plays 13.

Do you just have two starting props and two bench props ? Klemmer, Stef, Pole & Joe O. Who out of those players would you drop for Twal ?

Has the cross field cover of a postage stamp...

Not a prop and doesn't cover enough ground at lock.
Doesn't sting in defence or dint the line in attack...
He's just a lesser version of Joffa...

I would like to see him develop on offload and pick up some more post contact metres, but he has the right attitude and that is something that has been poorly lacking of late. He may not sting in defence but he doesn't miss either. He adds to what is shaping to be a fairly strong rotation, and I think he should nab a spot on the bench.

Initially with Hastings at 13, Brooks 7 and Doueihi 6, it gave us an extra number in the backline, it pushed Doueihi wider giving him more time and space. Where was Laurie?
We just needed some speed outside and inside Doueihi and for Hastings to work better with Brooks in moving opposition defence around. About 10 or more games in those positions can get the harmonic motion into our attack. imo.
Doueihi was mostly poor in defence too playing in the middle
I like the bloke but he gives up on the play too often

No wonder we came last

I can't recall a roster fix this big.
Its great to see a separation from the bean counters and the football staff. To be fair it would only have happened with someone like Sheens here - someone that can tell the board to stuff off.

We had a chance with Cleary, but he clearly couldn't do this

Klemmer is a big yes, he was a top 5 prop last year under the radar he was excellent and actually gives a shit will help massively with culture, he’s 29 he has a good 4 years left in him imo

Brown won’t be expensive and will have a chip on his shoulder... he excels in something we desperately need someone who just runs hard and brings an aggressive approach - he also is only 29 and could give us a good 2 years doubt we sign him long term and was once upon a time a SOS rep too isn’t a bad impact bench player too

Now Bateman who is also 29 is the only question mark.... I have enough belief in Sheens who identified Gareth Ellis to have trust that we’re getting the 2019/2020 Bateman - I do know his form dipped a little but maybe his motivation dropped playing home the fact we’ve gone as hard for him and offered 3 years leads me to believe Sheens knows something we don’t

All 3 forwards are 29 and you can argue as a forward you get better with age due to peak body growth and experience - none of these players are breaking the bank too with both Brown/Klemmer being subsided and doubt Bateman is being paid more than 600-650k
