Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Like I've been saying...

Wests Tigers legend Benji Marshall and old front-rower Aaron Woods recently bumped into each other with their families on the Gold Coast.

This would normally be a ‘Spotted’ but there is a lot more to it.

There is very strong mail that the veteran forward could be heading back to his old club the Wests Tigers for a fairytale final season in the NRL.

That a big third-party sponsor, not currently involved with the Wests Tigers, wants to contribute to make the deal worthwhile.

Woods would not comment other than to say he is still under contract to St George-Illawarra.

However we understand the Dragons will not stand in the way of the 31-year-old prop who has played 252 NRL games, 136 of them at the Wests Tigers.
The Tigers currently have 27 players contracted for next season. English forward John Bateman will take them to 28.

Woods is obviously not the same player as he used to be when he played for the NSW Blues in State of Origin and was always one of the first forwards chosen for the Kangaroos.

He did however manage 19 NRL games for the Dragons last season and 24 for the Sharks the year before. He played solidly each time.

Woods’ experience around the younger players would be invaluable at a development club and in a system where coach Tim Sheens and Benji want to introduce a number of promising rookies.

The veteran would love nothing more than to play his final year in his old jersey.

He left the club after the 2017 season for a big money deal at the Canterbury Bulldogs before switching to the Sharks and then Dragons.

The Wests Tigers have also considered making a move for Newcastle prop Dave Klemmer, who is one of Woods’s best mates. (DT)

Wonder who this mystery sponsor is.
