Luke Brooks #167

You’ll have a lot of experience at hooker dictating direction in the forwards. Klemmer will be a vocal pack leader. Paps will lead with his actions. A lot of pressure comes off his shoulders with the forwards hopefully winning us some games.
Sure forwards sorted. What about the backs?

Biggest question is - who'll be the general that leads the troops around the park?

Luke has shown it's not his strength and I doubt it's Daine's either.

Now that Jackson's gone the only option is Adam, who has proven he can lead but he's inconsistent.

Without a vocal dominant half that barks orders it doesn't matter how good our squad is, we'll struggle.
What about Api ??

Still a question mark. We showed an ability to break down teams on their right edge last year. With better go forward and more space, hopefully we become a bit more dangerous.

My suggestion is to stream some Panthers games and look closely at Api. He's so clever in leading the team around. He doesn't seem to point and wave his arms around, the receievers know exactly who's going to get the ball....well coached 🤔
He also keeps up with play well.
Hope he keeps off the grog 🤞

One wonders how low his bottom lip is. Seems to be his own biggest fan.
I really don't know what to make of him at this point. Had high hopes after last season but this year was a basic right off for him.
If he is not all in with Sheens he won't last a minute in any position.

Prior to his ACL Adam had a pretty good season in 2020 and 2021 and showed leadership qualities.

But I think you missed my point.

Who's going to lead in the halves in 2023?

Sorry not trying to sound difficult, but I didn't miss the point. My reference was directly related to the halves and what AD can do there.

IMO he shows leadership with his running game, which is important, but as far as leading us as a half, it's very questionable at the moment.

You'd hope with far more options attack wise .....Brooks ...and I hope they let him play either side of the ruck .....gives us far more options and will create far more confusion in opposition defences

From memory Sheens (and myself ) are big fans of having both your halves running the ball in back to back tackles close to the line after quick play the balls ...opposition just struggle to get the time to recover on their edges and you can isolate big guys one on one with players with footwork .....something that suits both Douehi and Brooks down to the ground

I hope so, but I'm pretty sure it will be AD and LB running the show.

I can't see Moses, Wighton or Williams signing in 2023.

As I just mentioned when replying to KS ...I'd imagine our play the ball speed will increase with Klem and Papa close to the line ...that favours having running halves with options outside them

Yeah definitely, I can't wait to see that combination. But it's the last play options which score the majority of points that is a concern for me.

Who's going to lead in the halves in 2023?

Atm Brooks which is a worry. I reckon it's a massive issue. Hastings can be that leader but we've lost him. Brooks and Doueihi or Laurie can come up with some good plays but I wouldn't trust either of them to come up with a big play on the 5th for instance.

Brooks shouldn't be the leader. That has been the problem since he got into first grade. He needs to be a role player.
