Flat Earth. Question for free thinkers of the forum....

Seeing this is the preseason and we can discuss many different topics,I thought I would raise a question that has me doubting some things that we were taught at school...For some people the earth is flat,I was taught we are on a globe, everywhere I went in school there was a globe of the world as we were taught..
This type of thing has me questioning a lot of the science we were taught, this brings me to the question I would like some people to think about..
If the moon is 400,000 km from earth, how come we can see it clearly as if it is just overhead and why sometimes we see clouds infront and at the back of the moon ?
I cant see a huge mountain 50 km away so why can I see an object 400,000 km away...it must be absolutely massive,it shouldnt even be a speck at that distance...
Feel free to inject some good sensible answers and civil conversation...cheers people...👍
“How can we see the moon if it's so far away?”

Why do you think there is a “limit” to the distance you can see? Light can travel pretty much forever, if nothing gets in the way to block it. So why would you NOT see the Moon? It’s closer to us than the Sun or the five visible planets, and we can see those too. We can see stars that are TRILLIONS of miles away. So what would stop us from seeing the Moon? The light from the Moon can travel straight to your eyes, even from a quarter of a million miles away. What’s blocking it?
The moon is just under a third of the earth's width (1,737.5km radius) and with the sun rays bouncing off it with nothing between the moon and the earth, of course we can see just how big it is.
Another reason why some distant objects on the horizon are clouded or hazy is because your looking through and enormous amount of atmosphere made up of smoke, dust, heat waves etc, another reason why you have sunsets bright redish because of the glowing particles of atmosphere, smoke pollution etc. Some of the sunsets are unbelievable up north where they burn off the cane fields.

According to flat earthers the stars are just lights on the dome and the moon and sun aren't as far away as you are told.

How often have you turned towards the sun and shielded you eyes still not looking into the sun but to one side, the amount of reflected atmosphere glows too much for you to cope. When you look directly up your looking through less reflected atmosphere than if you looked towards the horizon.

The bigger question I have is,
if the universe is endless it means its endless in any direction. So if you were to send a beam capable of endless travel from a fixed point on the earth into outer space in any direction, at the same time send another beam 1⁰ to let's say the right, eventually those beams would become infinitely so far apart, and that was just 1⁰ apart at the originator. So if you did 360⁰, all the beams at 1⁰ interval and omnidirectional the universe would be a big ball of light with no boundaries. Like an earth that's size was immeasurable 🤔 I made that up years ago and have wondered ever since. There is no end to matter.

Since finding out that the earth is flat…. I often now crap myself when I’m digging in the garden. What if i dig too deep and fall through the other side.
Gee if you dig too far that means the earth is a plate. 🙂

It's fine until flat earthers or creationists are in a position where they can influence education.
Yeah I'm not to concerned about flat earth being put on the curriculum. I'll also add that its the least of your worries seeing the direction the school system is going in.

Agree. what could possible go wrong with the next generation if we put the flat earthers in charge of the school system.

Who said a bunch of flat earthers are going to take over the school system if a few people watch soome flat earth videos? Those pearls are getting seriously clutched.

I'm not concerned about it happening, I'm saying it becomes a problem when they want to influence education.

The Science is in - Doctor Who's Tardis would have never been stable on a round Erff...ergo - the Erff is flatsky - which explains Michael Flatley's Riverdance cos if the Erff was round they could nevetr have performed their tipping tapping in synch. 💃🕺💃👯‍♀️💃🕺👯‍♂️☘️🍀

I've read 4 pages now and I cannot tell if anyone in this thread is being serious or it's just one big joke.

Anyone who thinks the Earth is flat is proper mental and needs professional help. There are one thousand proofs of a round Earth, not the least of which many many photographs of the Earth from space. In fact the Artemis craft is right this moment sending back nice pictures of a round Earth, from the Moon's orbit.

Similarly, ask yourself why the sun and moon are round (visibly so), which are both the largest and smallest celestial bodies you can view with the naked eye, so it holds that the Earth should be similarly round. Of course every other photograph of a planet in the solar system - also round.

If you don't or can't believe this, you are intentionally searching for a conspiracy and an argument for which there is absolutely no justification.

As some other people have said - free thinking is well and good if you are willing to listen to many experts who themselves are "free thinkers" but happen to be very experienced or knowledgeable in their fields. Free thinking where you ignore outstanding evidence - that's actually close-mindedness and about as far from "free thought" as possible.

The good thing about Science is, if we come up with a better explanation or solution for some question, we adopt that solution as the new benchmark. Scientific method always works in that regard.
