Hastings - Reasons for leaving

Reading the news headlines, it was Hastings, Douehi, then even Laurie was referred to as a star.
Take your pick, i don't think anyone deserved those names. But Ofa never gave up.
It was never Brooksy. Ofa and Twaly were the toilers imo also. I think they were both rewarded with decent contracts.

We have a forum that is biased, like kids that only see the try scorers, but not the ones who did the work. Hastings, AD, and Laurie were the darlings of the forum, and their effort was good. But who did the compare them to ? Not the top players in the comp, they were nowhere near that level,
And of course media meatheads ,read the forum, and pass it on in headlines. Best player, Star.etc etc. The same with Brooks, only he got the crap end of the deal. He also tried hard , but there has to be a villain. and of course the meatheads read the forums, and wallaaa!

We treated Hastings pretty poorly.
Good luck to him at the Knights, they need a good year.
As for us....we'll have some decent forward battles and win some games.
I don't see how he has been treated poorly? He came back for another opportunity in the NRL and we gave it to him.

He got paid well his first season. He's got a new longer-term deal with Knights, worth more money, and we released him from his contract to take this up.

All seems pretty professional to me and not mistreatment.

Agree , Hastings and Douehi were never going to consistently break the line, and if they did, they were not going to go far ! I'm sure most of the sides would have had Brooks as the most dangerous in the side, and therefor the defence had a target on him most of the game. Certainly our fullback, and hooker were also of minimum threat. Plus a weak forward pack ,and the slowest backline in history. He will have to stand up this year,as they all will, or it's close the door on the way out .
What a crock. AD when fit in 2021 had more tries, more line breaks and more tries than Brooks and he played less matches.

He was our best attacking weapon by far, hopefully after a full preseason this coming season will see a return to that 2021 form.

Brooks needs to step up now, he's partly to blame for the weak forwards performance over the years as he provides no direction, communication or leadership which are key components of the halfbacks Job. If he remains a mute on the field with his poor decision making of his career to date then it won't matter who we have in the forwards

We stuffed him around all year with his positional requirements preferring to play lesser players in his favoured positions even though, when he played there, he got results.
We fought tooth and nail to keep Brooks, yet let a guy who enaged the line more than every other player in the comp, bar 1, walk early. For mine, there were only two guys in our squad who put in consistently all year and he was one of them.

What silly revisionism.

Hastings played halves for 13 matches and missed 3 suspended, the latter being his own dumb fault. 3 matches at lock.

He was not shifted to lock until Round 18 and at that time not only was Doueihi returning (established star player pre-Hastings) but we were 3 W 10 L with Hastings as half. It's exceptionally justified to make team changes at this time. We win 1 of the 3 matches with Hastings at lock.

I struggle to understand how we "preferred to play lesser players" when he played most of the season in the halves.

Hastings didn't get results. We won 4 games all season and came last. Never come last before. Not even Luke Brooks had been part of a wooden spoon Tigers team before. Hastings achieves it in his first season back.

There are all these Hastings fanboys who get their back up because Hastings tried hard, wore his heart on his sleeve and was good at social media. But we sucked as a team and he was supposed to be one of our leaders.

You have no concept of whether or not Tigers fought to keep Brooks (hard or otherwise). There is every chance we just couldn't offload Brooks for the right price or that opponents were only willing to take him cheap if Tigers footed the bill.

You bring up line engagements, but unfortunately that's just an argument against Hastings. He was COMFORTABLY out-pointed by Brooks in line break assists and try assists. Average fantasy points for Hastings was 45.1 and Brooks 42.9.

And so if Brooks is indeed rubbish, let's all agree he is, I am not sure what it really says about Hastings when he touches the ball a million times, engages the line more than anyone in the comp and only comes away with 11 attack assists and 0 tries the entire season (Brooks ended up with 22 attack assists and 2 tries, in 1 appearance more than Hastings).

No argument that Hastings tried hard all year, but Tigers came stone last and nobody in our roster is beyond being traded to ensure we don't come 16th again.

I’m surprised that Hastings has gone from being our best player to having so many things wrong with his game. His slide seem to coincide with his move to Knights?

Nah, a good few realised the alluring shine of the new toy had been rubbed off fairly early on.

Capable player, just not our best in the halves and would have preferred that we kept him for the coming season.

Can only hope that we end up with a player to replace him in that lock role and more importantly, don't get any decent injury to our halves.

He didn't want to play lock and
got more money at knights FG.
Matamua makes it all better
