Hastings - Reasons for leaving

Problem is when he played lock he was also playing halfback in attack.
Personally think he was much better as a halfback than Brooks has ever, or ever, will be based on giving the team direction and possessing footy smarts.
Those spouting losing stats are the same blokes making every excuse in the world that it isn’t Brooks fault whenever the same thing comes up in relation to him.
It’s obvious Sheens didn’t want Hastings and gave him an out to play in a position he preferred for a lot more money.
We’ll soon see if that was the correct decision.

That’s the way I saw it. Doueihi wore the 6, but looked like a centre for most of the game, while Brooks wore 7 but looked like a 6. I thought at the time it was a work in progress and could get better, but in hindsight I’m thinking Hastings May have been unhappy to be moved to 13 while he was auditioning for a contract at 7.
Here’s a stat...both Brooks and Hastings have kicked winning FG while wearing 7.

I'm sure they have a plan. The question is will it work out. I'm looking forward to the season starting and hopefully we perform.
You either believe in Marshall and Sheens or you don't. In my view you cannot sign a player of the quality of Moses without long term preparations in place especially when such a large portion of your salary cap is allocated to one player. If third parties want to come on board with the player manager that takes organisation as well.

Personally I'm not that way inclined. I'll wait and see the results we get prior to making judgements.

They have definitely changed the roster extremely quickly but Madge did help as well.

We haven't signed Moses and even if we do it's going to be a massive contract and he will have to perform.

I do not include the two games at 5/8th because he was clearly not steering the team in those games. That was all Brooks. Hastings took over from Round 6.
I am not arguing that Hastings was our saviour or even our best player. What he brought was a cool head that knew how the game is played. We havent had that since Prince.
You can make the claim that the team won the spoon due to Brooks and Doueihi and Laurie...et al. and that they should all be replaced and thats fine. Except thats not what has occured. We got rid of the only guy out of that group who actually knows how to play football.

Hastings had similar amount of touches in round 1 & had more touches in round 2 than Brooks.
He had control of the team from the outset, they trained pre-season for it.

I actually thought Hastings was a ball hog, over played his hand ALOT and his organisation abilities were ineffective which then impacted the team in a major way.

Brooks and AD had their worst season on history. I do think their own efforts mixed with Hastings dynamic & Hooker indecision was a problem. We took a very massive step backwards in 22 from 21. The spine changes was a massive issue for us.

People see the game & players differently.

Everyone is still arguing about almost the crappiest 3 halves that have thrown a WTs Jersey on since 2005

Does everyone see the insanity of it

Argue about their bloody replacements for God sake

As posted in the other threat, the vibe around the club is far different now.

Is it 14 roster changes which suggests a high level of dissatisfaction with the previous roster?

Moses is a high-quality half and we don't know the structure of his contract but already you are signalling you will hit him over the head with it.

I have no issue with WTs paying for a high-quality player we badly need and a position where there is a shortage across the NRL.

But but Hastings won us 4 games this year.
1st halfback to win something for us in a while.
We are devastated he left, true shape shifter for our organisation.

Who are the replacements we can argue about?

I think it's pretty unlikely that Brooks will be a better organizing halfback than Hastings. I suppose it doesn't matter unless that is the difference between the two sides.

Just to be clear what matters is us being a better team than the Knights. They have some class in their team. We don't have a player at the same level of Ponga.

I don't know why the Knights under perform so often.
Ponga , talk about big money players not performing, Talented , yes, with the reliability of a Russian car.

Anyone not currently contracted for starters .....won't matter Benji will be coming out of retirement as well as Farah ...mark my words ...you watch

What garbage!

He was playing halfback while in the 13 as much as Yeo plays half for Penrith!

First receiver ball distributing lock is not a new concept - and it does not make Cleary as the real 7 obsolete as you seem to suggest with this nonsense.
Brooks isn’t Cleary either

I think sheens had more impact on 2022 than most.
Releasing players
Dumping noddy in it
Telling everyone we are aiming for 2025

Ponga is hopeless very over rated
That's a big call....
Especially by some one who rates Brooks.

Many coaches have said Ponga is one of the most naturally gifted footballers they have ever seen.

As mentioned, he turns it on for the big games.
I don't think he'll ever be remembered as a great.... because he hasn't achieved anything at club level and he has a very immature demeanour.

Has a bit of time left in the game though, so anything is possible...

Re-positioning the club to be competitive long term. The season was gone under Maguire. What is it 14 changes to the roster now with possibly more to come? I like what is happening (and it needed to happen).

I like Ponga's loyalty to the Knights but it is hard to escape the belief he is wasted under their current coach.

I'm not sure his loyalty is to the Knights.

He & his family are well taken care of and he's a super star player in a very average team that doesn't look to he on the rise at all (like us 😉)

But yeah, can't see him going onto better things with current coach or current team.

At least he's got Origin to look forward to!
🔥
