Former Raiders gun John Bateman is reportedly set to join the Wests Tigers ahead of the 2023 season as negotiations edge closer to being finalised.
Tim Sheens’ newest recruit is set to be unveiled in the coming days according to The Daily Telegraph, having last played in the NRL in 2020.
The 29-year-old has been plying his trade for the Wigan Warriors in the Super League and was a standout for the English side at this year’s World Cup.

Bateman’s new contract could reportedly be a four-year deal, joining the likes of Apisai Koroisau, David Klemmer and Isaiah Papali'I in making the move to Leichhardt.

The merger club will reportedly have to pay a hefty transfer fee to secure Bateman’s signature to play under Sheens and assistant coaches Benji Marshall, Robbie Farah and David Furner.

The Tigers are also reportedly chasing Eels gun Mitchell Moses and Panthers star Stephen Crichton, however the pair are also reportedly targets of the Bulldogs.

Good news in the making!

5 paragraph article and they use "reportedly" at the start of 4 of them. It was annoying to read.

Buzz and the rest of them always put 'reportedly' or they say 99% so it gives them an out. Gossip columns

I know it's a journos last pitch for a headline but the stars are aligning.
Bateman, Api and Papa will be three of the best signings we've had in a while.
Adding them to the better players that we already have will surely make it a pack that can at least get us off the bottom of the table...maybe 8th or better 🤔

Zero tackle reports that Nathan Brown was clear in his interest, to "return to Leichhardt". Given that it is Christmas eve I have the infamous K Bloody Wilson track, on my mind, and was thinking "Hey Sheens ...... where's my ...... Bateman, with Klems and Steins, in the bank he needs to attract a player on his own without a swap. Bateman will be the perfect announcement for Christmas, if he adds Brown, he might as well put on the suit and beard and head off to Leichhardt shopping centre. I will be the 1st in line.

Can i ask a question ...what stops an ESL side doing something dodgy with the transfer fee and have the player returning after 2 years
