Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I suppose it comes down to the interpretation of success. How many finals series Tiges in since 2005? And consecutive finals series? Maguire was there for 3 years and each year worse than the previous. I don't think anyone expects immediate success, but definitely improvement season upon season, and consistency
I guess what you’re saying is Maguire was the problem and regardless of what we do, victory/improvement is ours now that we’re rid of the problem?
I think there are more important elements to goal setting than simply removing impediments. Assuming Madge was the reason for our poor performance. It doesn’t make sense to me, because he always seemed more focussed on winning than anybody?

Agreed. I personally like Hastings but we were hardly a powerhouse when he played. Overall we nudged up from abysmal to woeful when he played.
Even if here was a powerhouse, he couldn't do it by himself. There were limitations around him. There isn't any quality halfbacks on the market, at least none to replace him, and to swap him for an ageing forward just doesn't make sense

You're making an assumption and it's incorrect. Victory/improvement will be expected from the next coach. Coaches live and die by the results sword. It was not entirely his fault but 3 increasingly bad season results aint gonna hold you in good stead. Focussed on winning he might have been but it did not translate to wins

I'm sure they might have made peace these days but Heino's position was untenable at the Tigers. Robbie at the time could not forgive Heino for not diving on the ball in the final against the Roosters. He refused to ever talk to him again. My source on this is solid.
Which game was that?

I remember watching Roosters vs Tigers when Fittler took over coaching there.... Honestly it was a fun game to watch. The Anasta field goal attempt where it hits the crossbar, the final where Roosters give up on Field goals and get a 50m try. They earned that win. (it wasn't a finals game from memory but left us at 9th/knocked us out. )

Otherwise trying to think what game your mentioning... I can't think of a finals game with us vs Easts and Heighno not diving on a ball.

I think u are putting to much into this culture and structure thing , so let’s look at the most successful clubs over the last 5-10 years , I would say there’s 4 or 5
Melbourne
Rooters
South’s
Penrith
So let’s break it down on these 4
Well the 1st thing is they are all owned or backed by single owners , which means they are able to entice the best juniors or the best up and comers as well as keeping the best players on lower contracts , they have the best coaches and I am sure the best back room staff . So when u compare this to the English premier soccer , look who dominates there competition, Manchester city , Chelsea , Liverpool, these clubs owned by single or very rich groups, WELL can u see the same pattern to our league , so culture and structure I think comes down to MONEY, MONEY and more MONEY, because all clubs try there best for that same culture , so it all comes down to how much money u can put into it .
I think your post points to the importance of who owns the money which is invested, not necessarily how much is invested in any particular club?
An investment advisor doesn’t feel the pain of a loss as much as the investor.
For that reason, Rusty is more focussed on the value and return of assets at Souths than I imagine anyone on the board of WT would be of this club?

We haven’t seen finals footy in 10 years. We know what failure is, but how do we know if we’re winning? Sheens got sacked because we missed the finals, if we miss the finals in 23 will he get sacked again?
We’re always talking about a coach’s poor performance being the final nail in his coffin. If it was simply a jump up the ladder each season then no coach would survive? What will happen to Cleary if Panthers run 3rd in 23?

I don’t know that they’re that bad that they need to copy other successful clubs? It’s not rocket science? From the outside it looks like we’re continually throwing up ideas, new things to try, new 3 year plans. It’s a sign of lack of stability. As an example, every so often we have a focus on winning the Flegg, but why hasn’t that been a focus from day one? We were offered state of the art facilities at the same time as Penrith and other clubs but refused for what ever reason, now we are all for the idea of a CoE?
If there’s one thing they can garner from successful clubs it’s buried in words like “have a long term plan” “stick to the plan” “have direction” regardless of who leaves or joins the club.
wait: "We were offered state of the art facilities at the same time as Penrith and other clubs but refused for what ever reason, now we are all for the idea of a CoE?"

If you are talking about us being the second team at Parra Stadium... Forget it. If we could claim Olympic park, sure. Yet everyone has said rightfully at those stadiums we felt like backpackers and our win/loss record shows that.

The COE has taken WAY too long to build. It's a great 3 year plan that has taken 5-6 years... ??

Naturally many Westie's from Campbelltown are screaming that we need to build a base there. We can own the south and only really have to fight St George (dogs show no interest to claim the area).

I did say it's also consistency. Ist to 3rd is still in the top 4. That's consistency. Better example might be Trent Robinson. Regardless of injury toll do you think Roosters will persist with him after 3 years of increasingly bad results?

So when we win it’s him but when we lose it’s the buffoons around him? I mean it’s true the rest of the team was lousy but you’re making him sound like Cooper Cronk. In the end we had three guys who wanted to play two positions and the coach ranked him lowest. Whether that was reasonable is debatable. I think I’d rather Brooks and Hastings to be honest.

2010 Final, the roosters didn't pack the scrum correctly and spun around and threw the ball at the back of the roosters legs. Should have been a penalty to the tigers so no one bothered to pick it up. The roosters picked it up and ran away to score. That put them within a point of the tigers and they had about 5 attempts at a field goal before Anasta managed to get one over which sent the game to over time.

Just yet another game the refs and the nrl screwed us over so their favourite teams win.
Nothing to see here.

Not quite. - Yep it should have been a penalty as their front rower just broke from the scrum and dived on the ball before it had cleared the scrum. However all Heighno had to do was fall on the ball. The score at the time was 15- 14. Rorters threw it around and evetually Anasta kicked field goal from 35 mtrs out to take it to extra time. Tigers had most of the running in ET until Ful;ton threw a floating pass and it was intercepted by Kenny -Dowall ho ran about 80 mtrs to score.
