Sure but even that only takes him to 5 wins from 16 appearances. That’s not even 33%. He played halfback when we scored 12 points in three games against Manly, Canterbury and the Warriors.

None of our players who played this season were make or break players given our woeful position but some definitely offered more than others - Hastings probably fits into that category with most apart from a few who didnt/don't rate him.
It cant be ignored the decision makers who had a major bearing on our performance given the season was written off a little over halfway through the season. Can guarantee that decision will not be made next season regardless of how we are going.

I liked Hastings as a player - I’m just pointing out the facts.

I think u are putting to much into this culture and structure thing , so let’s look at the most successful clubs over the last 5-10 years , I would say there’s 4 or 5
Melbourne
Rooters
South’s
Penrith
So let’s break it down on these 4
Well the 1st thing is they are all owned or backed by single owners , which means they are able to entice the best juniors or the best up and comers as well as keeping the best players on lower contracts , they have the best coaches and I am sure the best back room staff . So when u compare this to the English premier soccer , look who dominates there competition, Manchester city , Chelsea , Liverpool, these clubs owned by single or very rich groups, WELL can u see the same pattern to our league , so culture and structure I think comes down to MONEY, MONEY and more MONEY, because all clubs try there best for that same culture , so it all comes down to how much money u can put into it .

Nope.

They were combos getting to know each other, trying plays & it was beginning to gel. Beating top teams by a point is belief. Don't stop trying.

I suppose it comes down to the interpretation of success. How many finals series Tiges in since 2005? And consecutive finals series? Maguire was there for 3 years and each year worse than the previous. I don't think anyone expects immediate success, but definitely improvement season upon season, and consistency

I think there are more important elements to goal setting than simply removing impediments. Assuming Madge was the reason for our poor performance. It doesn’t make sense to me, because he always seemed more focussed on winning than anybody?

Agreed. I personally like Hastings but we were hardly a powerhouse when he played. Overall we nudged up from abysmal to woeful when he played.

Even if here was a powerhouse, he couldn't do it by himself. There were limitations around him. There isn't any quality halfbacks on the market, at least none to replace him, and to swap him for an ageing forward just doesn't make sense

You're making an assumption and it's incorrect. Victory/improvement will be expected from the next coach. Coaches live and die by the results sword. It was not entirely his fault but 3 increasingly bad season results aint gonna hold you in good stead. Focussed on winning he might have been but it did not translate to wins

The two big signings did not get over the line until Sheens was on board. Madge couldn't land anyone until Sheens arrived

This was in tandem. Give Madge the credit he deserves.

Both Api and Papi have strong relationships with Madge.

I'm sure they might have made peace these days but Heino's position was untenable at the Tigers. Robbie at the time could not forgive Heino for not diving on the ball in the final against the Roosters. He refused to ever talk to him again. My source on this is solid.

Which game was that?

I remember watching Roosters vs Tigers when Fittler took over coaching there.... Honestly it was a fun game to watch. The Anasta field goal attempt where it hits the crossbar, the final where Roosters give up on Field goals and get a 50m try. They earned that win. (it wasn't a finals game from memory but left us at 9th/knocked us out. )

Otherwise trying to think what game your mentioning... I can't think of a finals game with us vs Easts and Heighno not diving on a ball.

I think your post points to the importance of who owns the money which is invested, not necessarily how much is invested in any particular club?
An investment advisor doesn’t feel the pain of a loss as much as the investor.
For that reason, Rusty is more focussed on the value and return of assets at Souths than I imagine anyone on the board of WT would be of this club?
