Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Large played for Campbelltown City.

My younger family played against him (and his younger brother) for years, and he was always spoken about, so I’ve seen a heap of his games.

And yeah, there’s nothing stopping Faagutu playing first grade after Round 10.

He’s 18 now, turns 19 this year.
is Faagutu in the Top 30, or on a dev contract?

Neither, just on a lower-grade SG Ball contract for now.

Not sure if he gets payed extra for having a few training sessions with first grade over pre-season.

I can definitely see him making his debut late in 2023 though (non-Top 30 players can play without needing an exemption after Round 10).

The culling has been just as important
Some people, yes.

Clearly there was a plan to cull the forward pack as they were not performing.
Yet I wonder if James Tamou could have been offered a cheaper contract to play on. I could see him working very well with Klemmer, Bateman and I Paps.

Meh. What do I know, we would have paid overs for him and he needed a change. We did massively well in recruitment, not exactly a wishlist but close too.

Is this Onitoni Large in the Tigers junior ranks or what .. ?? if he is only 15 in that clip the kid is huge for a 5/8 .. !! The next Joseph Suaalii .. any other info on him .. ??

Yep, will make his Harold Matt’s debut for Western Suburbs in 2023; Campbelltown City junior.

Name pronounced Ontony (like Antony, but with an O).

Roosters took him off us and we managed to get him back a couple years ago.

Best junior footballer I’ve ever seen by a long way.

He has a younger brother Ashton, who’s a hooker; also very highly regarded in schoolboy rugby league circles.

Campbelltown city kangaroos boy represent hahahaha, roos are a strong club, good to see some young fella coming from that way with the likes of the large brothers and also matamua

Looks like Lee is trying to make the situation worse over there… maybe to make a play for cobbo?
Free legal advice to a competitor?
Or a friendly reminder that it will not happen at WT?

Your last sentence is spot on Cobarcats. Now can we get the NRL to show some intestinal fortitude and see that this happens! This would be for the good of the game. It's time that the administration stood up to the behind the scenes powerbrokers! Sorry but I can't accept that the Roosters consistently roll out a premiership calibre roster year after year because they 'manage their cap better'.
Unfortunately I don't believe the nrl will do anything cause it's afraid it could open up a massive can of worms, but I agree with you stevied

Nah, can't cop that. Agree with free trade but not when it involves flouting a system that is meant to create equal opportunity in the talent pool and an even NRL competition. The only way your argument stands up is if it is endorsements you are talking about, ie a player promotes a brand of footy attire. What does arm's length mean? If a business entity, who has an affection or affiliation with a particular club, but is not actually involved in the administration, offers gifts or other financial incentives in order to entice them to sign on, is that arm's length? I don't think so.
Mate, if you have evidence of the “flouting” and you feel strongly about it then do something? Write to Abdo?
Ask him why the players are wearing different boots for example?
Be happy to discuss further but on another more appropriate thread?

I don't get this argument. Brooks has been crucified about 1 million times to every 1 time AD has been crucified.

AD is in the same category as Brooks anyway. He is one of our top paid players now and he appears to want an upgrade and he hasn't performed.

You can't argue against Brooks but then state it's all good for AD.

Is being overpaid an issue or not ? It is to me. I don't like Brooks on that salary in our cap and I don't like AD on his current salary let alone an increase which no club has offered.
Both are worth no more than 500k they have played

It's these three guys that need to improve significantly. I'd love to see the halves and fullback positions sorted out this season for the next couple of seasons.
I would add to this. If these 3 guys do significantly improve we will make the 8 this year.

Just caught up with a mate who is a mad Eels fan for a few ales. Like everyone he knows someone and his take on it is

That MM is happy with the dollars that the slippery pricks are offering but not the length of the deal, 3yrs and a 4th in the clubs favour. He wants 4yr with no options but apparently like every other side the Eels have a gun halfback coming through the ranks.
He also thinks if MM doesn't get the option removed then he is gone.
Anyway don't shoot the messenger.

Thanks for the update. Does anyone know if we are offering a straight out 4 year term plus the extra $s.

He usually gets an option in his favour anyway.

You'd think wouldn't be an issue considering the contract they offered d brown. Unless they have favourites.

As of a day ago. MM still hadn't informed Tigers of his decision - even tho one was promised pre-xmas.

The contact seems to think, the longer it goes, the less likely it becomes.

Seems we're leverage.

Similar to what others have said.
