Luke Brooks #167

Yes and no. These guys are professional sportsman and they get paid big dollars to execute well under pressure. It's part of the job.
What's your thoughts Earl on paying $1.3 on Moses , who also fails to perform under pressure . ?

I don't think it's this simple though. I think Sheens wants Brooks but wants Brooks on reduced money. Sheens is also out trying really hard to get a good halfback and he is throwing the cash around.

To me it comes across as Brooks is the secondary half and not the go too guy.

I've even heard the haters state Brooks was fine last year playing at 6.
You do realise the ‘haters’ don’t necessarily ‘hate’Brooks… they just don’t want to see him at halfback.

I didn't consider that you personally knew him and therefore hated him so yep I get that. I also don't think Brooks is a controlling 7 and I'd prefer a better player in that role.

I suppose the haters are the ones that go on and on about it and they should realize it's not an easy fix. It's easy to complain about it but it's not so easy to get a quality halfback.

I thought Hastings was better in that role but he is slow and his kicking game is worse than Brooks mainly because he doesn't have a long kicking game. You can argue this point but I think it's clear cut. Doueihi is erratic and Hastings couldn't kick long. My main concern with losing Hastings is that he was injured last season and maybe he will be quicker and have a better kicking game next season if he is injury free. I suppose we'll find out.

The club though clearly were happy to release Hastings and keep Brooks.

I don't view Brooks as that bad. I think Laurie, Doueihi and Brooks are in the same bucket of not being good enough. I'm hopeful at least one of them proves themself to be a quality player next season.

These are also the reasons for his woeful touch finders that only gain 2 metres up field on the rare occasion we're awarded a penalty.
I agree with this point his lame kicking for the sideline has been pathetic. But again is that a confidence thing? If he feels supported and gets a role on, I believe this will improve.

100%.
It stands to reason the “haters” don’t actually hate the man unless they are known to each other physically and have beef.
Disliking his work product, even hating it, is an entirely different story. The “supporters” seem to gloss over this point.

And that's why the clowns that run the place have kept their jobs for so long. With braindead supporters, why put effort in.

DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!
Yer sorry, don’t think so!
Personal insults about him being a gnome is kind of hate mail. Going on and in about it, just reinforces this personal attack.
This sort of crap about slamming our own players and legends, is what we hate about other forums!
Is brooks performing well? No. Is it a place to say that he is not performing with out the personal insults? Yes.
We all have the right to be critical of players but to go on and on about it is over the top. It’s great we are all passionate about our club, just don’t drag it down with this pettiness.
Have I bagged brooks for his poor play? Yes, but as I said I am prepared to support him this season with a new pack/coaching team. Let’s all hope he has a great year, and hope he doesn’t read this forum!

So if he has 6 in his back no whinging then ??
Not if he does his job and we have an actual halfback.
I’ve already stated before he looked much more relaxed as a running five eighth (even though he was wearing the no.7) with Hastings doing the thinking.
Much better suited to his skill set.. I even think he’d go ok in the centres.
You do realise the only rep game our 2018 Dally M half of the year ever played in he was a benchie who came on twice… at five eighth and centre.

might happen 2024 as a 6 but 2023 he is the 7 unless we go with Will Smith

He could not have been more supported by this club. The fact he's never been dropped from first grade no matter how disgusting he's played over the years proves he can't have been more supported

I think it’s extremely important, if we’re going to win more games than we lose, for the coach and half to have a strong mutual respect for each other’s professional knowledge.
When we look at all the successful teams we find a strong bond between those two positions within the playing group. You could also include the 9.
We all know how skilled Brooksy is on the park, but the 7 should be meeting regularly with the coach to develop strategies to overcome opponents.
Sheens has never indicated that he doesn’t want Brooks, in fact it is possible that he is building the team around him.
Crikey, it’s happened before in organisations where a person holding a dominant position has had the bulk of others calling for him to be sacked, only to find the complete reverse to be the correct move.
