Luke Brooks #167

I’m just hoping that he does do that practice( along with AD) and they kick to spaces not faces.
Forcing the opposition full back to gather off the deck is so much better than letting them take it on the full with momentum.
And bombs, pressure and commitment required.
Any kick is only as good as the chasers !
IMO that's a massive issue with Brooks's kicking.

I can't think of another half whose long kicks go straight to the fullback more often than Brooks. He never finds space.

Plus his bombs are always very shallow, it's basically a chip kick straight to the fullback without giving the chasers time to put pressure on.

He has never ever improved this aspect of his game, which very much gives the impression that he doesn't care about getting better as a player because it's such an obvious flaw

Show me the game of Woods and Packer in the 2018 Tigers pack
- Might help work out where the non-sense is coming from....

While you're at it, Find a few games for us where Packer was "Good"
(I could count them on one hand - Over 3 years)
the lack of knowledge says it all really, detail are not really his thing

Good post. I don't get the comments about Brooks kicking game being that bad. It's not elite ala Cleary but he was our best general kicker last season and it wasn't close.

I think his decision making under pressure is poor but I see Clearly making mistakes and going missing and he is the best in the game.
Everyone's decision making under pressure is poor. That's the point of the pressure.

Nah bro, his 5th options are shit cause the...*checks brooks excuses logbook*...poor service from dummy half and or no platform laid by forward. Also shit coach/s. Not Brooks fault. He's awesome.

All spot on assessments. Let’s hope Sheens and Benji work on those things.
Remember Tim wants to coach him !

We do have to work on this aspect of the game Earl. Too many times Brooks was kicking under pressure, from the wrong spot and kicking it straight down the opposition's throat.
Hopefully with a decent pack that gets the D back peddling we'll see a better set up for kicks and quality kicks.
When was the last 40/20? A great kick deep down past the 20m line along with a great chase is so important these days.
They have to kick from deep in their territory on the 5th for a change, that hasn't happened for a lonnnngg time.
Cobar I said earlier about Luke playing better this year with a new pack and Sheens as coach...having said that I also have bagged him on numerous occasions because Im a true supporter of the team and club and want success as others do..
In Lukes defense in regards to his kicking game, its really hard when the pack has no go forward and are pushed back numerous times,he will most of the time kick POORLY because he is playing on the back foot which in turn creates enormous pressure and then the errors escalate..I can talk from experience,if your forwards dont lay the platform you cant expect to make ground with a kick everytime...PRESSURE...

Yes and no. These guys are professional sportsman and they get paid big dollars to execute well under pressure. It's part of the job.

didn't have a sh#t coach in 2018 or hooker and he played well. Let's see how 2023 plays out with a good coach and good 9

Man you are so right. Finally this year we will be able to see the Brooks that everyone else is too blind to see. Gunna be epic. So pumped can’t wait. In the meantime I’m going to check the dally M betting line. I wanna get a sneaky gorilla on brooks before the odds tighten right up.

100% mate. People soon forget how on the money sheens was with his player selection before the club fired him and he sued them. The faith he has shown in Brooks is both heartwarming and inspiring. I for one can’t wait to see what sheens can get out of him once he shifts Brooks to center.

I don't think it's this simple though. I think Sheens wants Brooks but wants Brooks on reduced money. Sheens is also out trying really hard to get a good halfback and he is throwing the cash around.

To me it comes across as Brooks is the secondary half and not the go too guy.

I've even heard the haters state Brooks was fine last year playing at 6.

Same here mate. I have Brooksy up for a big year. I had Doueihi up for a big year last year. At some point I'll get it right.

Lol. Stop being a hater. Brooks is no one’s second choice. I’m actually thinking sheens is going to use him as a 6 &7 freeing up a spot to run two fullbacks.
