Luke Brooks #167

I can think of three achievements for Brooks in his career -

1. Having the respect of your teammates and opponents.
2. Being a consistent NRL player
3. Potentially a one club player.

Not every player can be a Kangaroo, an SOO player or win a premiership. Many very good players have not achieved all three and one player who comes to mind ironically is Kevin Hastings. Most would agree he was a fine player for the Roosters.
1. He would not have the respect of his opponents. They know he’s the weakest in the team hence they try to target him during our games. Teammates may very depending who he gets along with. No secret not everyone are best mates and that goes to all clubs in general.

2. He’s consistently bad very rarely does he have a good game. I hope he’s practicing his 40/20s and short goal kicking that needs a lot of work.

3. While one club players are rare these days, its not something to really brag about. Only if the club has been successful can you really brag about being one club players.

There have been players who ultimately didn’t win premierships, play origin and represent your country. If you were unable to achieve all 3 you were either really unlucky, or weren’t that good to make it. Safe to say Brooks falls into the second category. He may get lucky to win a premiership but that’s extremely unlikely. Origin and Australia have long passed him so you can forget that. Kevin Hastings was unlucky not to play for his country and win a premiership but he did get picked for Origin so he still managed to achieve something in his career.

But contracts generally reflect the market (at that time).

He is overpaid right now though. Way too many articles plus Sheens comments about his salary makes you think we made a bad contract with Brooks at some point. Same with Nofo. I don't think these contracts are in the same league though as contracts like Mbye. Josh Reynolds and even Packer. To me it's not a big issue because this is his final contract year and he has always put in. I suppose his contract needs to put into perspective.

I think one of his goals should be to become a better footy player. Stuff the results. He should just focus on making the right decisions at the right time and improving various areas of his game.

I think the same about Doueihi.

Every player should be looking to become better players and working on their game.

I hope the coaching staff are looking to develop a team that can win the comp.

That's your opinion and nothing more.

So, in other words, they don't think he's a halfback.

He was played last season as basically a running 6 and Sheens has stated that he doesn't think the halfback is the guy who has to lead the team around.

Sheens to me doesn't seem to view Brooks as an Andrew Johns type halfback.

We appear to be chasing Moses hard and I assume it's as a halfback with Brooks or Doueihi to the 6 spot on lesser dollars. It'll be interesting to see who out of Brooks, Doueihi and Laurie will gain a contract at the Tigers.

To me Hastings last season proved that Brooks ain't a 7 he's a 6 & the sooner everyone realises that the better. If we can secure Moses he would be a much needed upgrade on Brooks & then Brooks & AD could battle it out for the #6 jersey.
He's gone. Sheens and Marshall did not want him otherwise he would still be at WTs.
