Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

His agent was an Eels junior and his dad loves the Eels. Maybe things have changed, the Klemmer and Bateman signings are a positive indication?

Not sure how many Isaac players are at the eels. Only one I know is their new 9 but not sure if he had many options.

Confirmed - Bateman will be here within the next two weeks, unclear in the screenshot of his Instagram below whether it means this week or next. Have heard some speculation in the media that he will play lock, but based on us moving Papali’i to the left edge, it seems he will be on the right edge. Shawn Blore is the wild card here as he has the potential to be a starting back rower, but you would think he comes off the bench. It’s certainly a good problem to have, with Papali’i, Bateman and Blore all very good edge options, opposed to previous years with a revolving cast of Garner, Tuilagi and Seyfarth. 2C94C709-BD93-4B4F-AD9A-BB4BDE95CBD2.jpeg

I wish I saw Brooks as a junior. I'm sure it's nothing like he has been the last few years I suspect a lot has been coached out of him.
Marshall would know Brooks' capabilities having played with him and imo is one of the reasons he is so keen to retain him.

I think Laurie also is often forgotten. I know he is training at both fullback and in the halves. He is a natural ball-player, has good instincts, can defend and has pace. I expect Laurie to come on this season and emerge as a genuine utility option at fullback or in the 6.

i remember seeing him at the high school carnival in port macqaurei a number of years ago. He and Moses were the halves for Combined Catholic Colleges. Moses was getting all the hype because of Uncle Benny but Brooks was the better player in that tournament. He did everything that a top 7 should do - Moses was the runner. How times have changed.

Club has to have some contribution to this.

How was their forward pack?

This is a rundown of that competition. Unfortunately it doesn't give you team sheets . I do know that Bryce Cartwright, DWZ and Adam Elliott were in the side. But if you look through the page there are a lot of current NRL players in there. Joe O for Qld, Matt Lodge, Clint Gutho, Dylan Walker etc. Then if you look at the Aust Schoolboys team its a who's who. Joe O couldn't make the side to play England who had an Academy player by the name of John Bateman. People who think that pathways don't matter should look at this type of thing.

Is it not true that Moses, Brooks, and Bateman are all with Isaac Moses management company. I'd say we have had to jump more than one hoop...
Bingo.!Sure don't want a repeat of 2018 where the club was brought to its knees by one all powerful player manger..and thats maybe whats happening behind the scenes
It's critical that WTs are calling the shots on our players, not Moses and,..and if it means we walk away,so be it

First time commenter long time reader -
Its rough to get a read on the moses situation. Miks rugby league page on instagram reckons Mitch has already re-signed with the Eels and just waiting for it to be registered by the NRL to be announced and his oil is pretty spot on in the past, also seems pretty confident shutting down any commenter who thinks otherwise, then again they said it would be announced this week just gone and it hasnt.. nothings official until its official but man i wish it would be announced one way or the other now so we can either move on or bring him into our plans.

Mik is a female who posts random stuff without a source, more often that not.

Grain of salt with that one...

Club brought to its knees when Sheens left.

He was pretty sharp and played a lot of off the cuff footy. Was surrounded by like minded individuals and encouraged to play that way.
Unfortunately you’re correct, a lot if not all that flamboyance is coached out of the top tier although there are still those that play with a gut feel for any situation.
If Sheens can turn back the clock we may well see a very different Brooks this season. I hope so coz if you find some tapes of the old days he was dynamic.
