Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Reckon you have it back to front…
We went on a run of 7 in a row at the back end of 09 when he was in the halves…
That time is basically his career highlights package.
Did his knees in early 2010, filled in for McKinnon there at the back end of 11, played 2012 there mostly with no results….
He was horrible at fullback, almost running backwards to give the ball to someone else to be tackled…
Maybe Ur right, I just remember him signing with the dragons only for him to re-sign with us during the cooling off period

Not sure what you are talking about

That video literally does nothing to disapprove what batboy said. Notice how there were no highlights from his kick returns, which is what I’m pretty sure batboy and others were referring to. Moltz avoided contact like it was the plague back then as any real tigers fan will remember

Moltz only good quality as a FB was his support play.

Not likely....
Lot of talented juniors they'd have to shaft to make that offer...
Not to mention Brooks waiting out the Tigers to get through the basketcase days - just to walk into the Dragons basketcase....
That's assuming that we've made an offer to extend his contract. Every chance we haven't. And Hook Griffin is making a habit of signing elderly scraps instead of promoting his Jnrs

Looking at a highlights video that was put together by a staunch club supporter will only show you the good parts about his game.Moltzen was good at times but most of the time especially in his late years he was poor

Yeh helps when I am highlighting there were good parts to hos footy

Tim Moltzen was a perfectly capable player that injuries severly effected. The fact he wasn't 'as good' as Scott Prince or Brett Hodgson or Benji Marshall doesn't take away from the fact he was a very capable first grade footballer in his own right.

The need to bring players down because of what they were not, instead of praising for what they were, is baffling. He was quick, had a decent kick & pass game & was very good in support.

Problem with Doueihi at 1 is his lack of speed. Opposition kickers had field days on him. Easiest guy to kick 40/20s against.
I guess Doueihi is in limbo, position wise with us atm. IMO: If Moses or another halfback comes, Brooks goes to 5/8 and he becomes a centre that can fill in for injury in the halves and maybe at fullback. If we don't sign someone as halfback, Brooks plays there and he (AD) plays as our 5/8. Really depends on external factors.

Either way, as mentioned already on here, it's a big year for a number of players. Hoping that brings out their best. Also hope injury doesn't cruel anyone's chances to impress.

I'd also like to see either Ken OR Noffa on one wing for their starts to sets, with the other wing manned by Staines and Laurie, with those two swapping around between fullback and wing quite often, to keep the opposition guessing.

There's a chance they could lean him right down and do plenty of agility work, that could make a fair difference. A frame like his could swing between 105kg at the high end to play lock, or down as low as 88 - 90kg if they wanted to maximise his agility and endurance.

It'd be a fair experiment. I think he's definitely got the ball playing, the catching/leaping and the communication ability for fullback, with his change of direction and positional play the major drawbacks, though the latter is a learned skill.

There'd be worse options. Some better ones too, but worse fullback picks no doubt.

Sign the best players you can then find them spots…

Brooks Moses douehi Laurie are all high quality players. If you can afford them and sign them , you keep them all and find spots for each of them in your first grade back line .

One thign it shows is the need for pace in the backline. We currently dont' have anyone in our entire backline as quick as Moltzen was. Who was quick, but still not JAC quick.
Laurie and Naden are both deceptively quick. Certainly in the realm of Moltzen, who was not a noted elite speedster, as you said.
