Certainly a shame but not the end of the world. Good squad at the moment with plenty of places we can continue to improve. Looks like Brooks & Doueihi are the halves for minimum this season and next (and probably longer than that too). FIngers crossed we can get Brooks' salary down to what, 750-800k? Curious on people's (fair, please no more Brooks rants......) opinion on what Brooks is worth.

So our next focus is for us to beat Parra at Easter and the Players will want to show him what he has turned down.. IMO I think Moses made the wrong call as they are heading down, and we are heading upwards.
Time will tell but stoked with the overall off season for a wooden spooner club..

Maybe we're gonna have to actually play a good season before we attract talent in the backs. We are the wooden spooners. I expect us to snag a big signing next off season if we perform this year.

But all our young halves are currently 15, and 4 years away from first grade!
We currently have no decent half prospects at NSW Cup, jersey Flegg or SG ball Level!! None.
We simply must sign a young half who might be ready to fill in next season if Brooks can't get better.
Give Brooks a one year extension, with a club option for another 2 and let's see how he does. He's done bugger all for years now and we simply cannot put all our eggs in one basket when that basket has already been smashed to smithereens on multiple occasions!

To be fair I haven't really paid attention to this kid....

There won't be 1.4 mil. Brooks is off contract end of this year - i would imagine the 2 year extension will be at a lower rate than what he is on but you would have to think it will be around 800k.

i’d expect the club to be patient for the first two months of the season before making a call on what to do in terms of the 7 for the next few years. there’s a couple of decent options in the lower grades of other teams, but we risk blocking a pathway for the halfbacks in Matts when they come thru.

the perfect scenario is that Brooks and Doueihi become a serviceable enough pairing for the next two years. George Williams probably a potential option, don’t see anymore options than that.

What I am surprised about, is that plan B is to persist with Brooks/AD.

The 600k doesn’t come out of the cap if its a transfer fee and would need to be used on a player as part of the cap

As I said? The only difference being is the total spend would be higher for a UK player than just paying Moses because you’d be spending the same ~$1.3m (or whatever) in the cap (likely on multiple players) plus the transfer fee outside the cap.

So we missed the Tanker for me I think we dodged a bullet, our cap won’t be tied up with his inflated contract, so with his money I would be on a plane to visit G.Williams with the idea of coming over next year to play with his mate Bateman again, our good juniors are 4-5 years away from grade there is no way I could put up with Brooks for that long if he doesn’t fire with the forwards we got he never will. Time for him to step up or pack his bags

Fair enough. I’d offer LB 600 max unless he starts the year on a tear . Saving up to half a million on what he’s on now. We must have wiggle room if we had 1.4 for Moses and intended to keep Brooks. There’s gotta be money for a huge star if one actually will give the club a chance.

Is he really worth that ? What about AD ? The average salary is 370k.

We are looking at 2030 until this next crop of star halves are established first graders. They might debut a year or two earlier but they won’t be stars immediately I wouldn’t have thought.

There are 2 Conti's. Levi is in SG ball and is very average. Alex Conti is in Harold Matts and had big wraps .

We were going to re-sign Brooks even if we got Moses. So if we offered Moses 1.4m, then we still have that to spend. Brooks money was already accounted for.
