TEAM LIST Round 2 vs. Knights

Team List
Am I the only one who wasn't really impressed with Papali'i?

He looked like his mind was elsewhere if I am being honest. Sure, he made 150 metres which was great, but he dropped a few balls and didn't seem to have a huge impact/dent the line that often compared to what I am used to seeing from him.

It's early days and things will improve, as will the new recruits.

I thought Klem was excellent. Need more from Stef.

Posted the same. Feel he looks lost on the left side.

Tiny Tim showed more agression then Stef. He needs a kick up the bum.

more confident this week than I was last week. nullify their back five and spot set Ponga in defence. their bench is as poor as ours but we'll make more ground in those periods given how expansive we are. Doueihi will isolate Ponga down that right side and Papali'i will have a field day up against Hastings. Brooks and Koroisau with another week under their belts will improve considerably also.

Yep there are 50 coaches and admin staff, 30 odd players. Brooks had his first game since mid July last year, but it really makes a lot of sense to blame the little guy for our losses.
The little bloke,, or the halfback that never gets repeat sets? That constantly drops the ball and throws hospital passes or passes that are the wrong option or put the receiver under a heap of pressure . Sadly , Luke just does not have a high footy IQ under pressure .. people can argue all they want but 10 years of results kind of speaks for itself !

Absolutely massive game for Brooks...hate to beat a dead horse, but facts are facts.

It has been 18 months since we won a game with Luke at 7.

2022 we lost every game he started there. (Our four wins all came with Hastings or Madden at 7)

Now, Brooks v Hastings and loser goes to 0 and 2 for 2023.

It really is massive for Luke.
Massive game for the team. If we keep dropping balls and defending like we did on the right side, there is nothing any half back can do to change the result other than a smaller loss margin.
I get that he has been poor but I don’t get how the outcome of a game rests on the shoulder of one player.

Yes, but he looked fit and showed plenty to suggest that if he and Brooks work together they could form more combinations than a Chinese kitchen.

If it wasn’t for Benji Brooks would have left for a better offer.

I thought he looked fairly innocuous. Never threatened in attack or D. Hope hes not another Blair...only looked good when surrounded by better players.

Those are some scary facts. We always seem to struggle against Newy.

We won against Souths and Parra in 2022 with him in the halves. These stats are wrong, but it did make me do some digging.

We have won 10 of a possible 49 games that he has played in since 2021.

8 games in 2021, 2 games in 2022, and 0 games so far in 2023.

What other NRL club would accept these levels of s#%thousery from their halfback. I can confidently tell you none. Even the GC bailed on Toby Sexton (who has a better record than Brooks over the last 2 years) for Tanah Boyd at halfback.

Man, this is some grim reality.

For contrast, were you able to figure out how many games were won/lost over the same period, with Brooks unavailable?

Only 2 more games were won without Brooks over the same period. It's kind of redundant though, because you're in reserve halfback territory for a wooden spoon contending team.

I know what you're saying, I was more trying to see what difference is made when he isn't there, a better strike rate it would appear.

Hasn't that been the whole point of improving the roster? No go forward, no strike, hence this our main priority

There's not many quality halves on the market and we had too many weaknesses across the team (backs, forwards, spine) that needed urgent attention.
Replacing the likes of Musgrove and Mikaele and the Joey Leilua and (no disrespect) Jimmy the Jet types etc., whom either aren't very good or on the verge of retirement.
Teams like the Broncos and the Titans have always had talented backs or forward packs. A team like the Bulldogs has even gained better strike players.
We need to probably use a similar blueprint to Sharks by recruiting in vital positions and retaining our best juniors. John Morris did well with their pathways and IMO it's a shame we couldn't land him.

If we're 0/6 then by all means go for it but think it's a little premature to call how someone's going to perform when they've played their first game in a brand new team (dynamic) and have had little time to build on chemistry or combinations.

We've made necessary upgrades in a couple of areas, so there's no doubt in my mind that the club will continue with this if we (our players in key positions) continue to fail.

10 years and 1 game isn't a big enough sample size for you?
