His value is currently low. He's a youngster with potential who's had a lot of injuries. Another major injury and his options would be very limited. If he plays a full season of NSW cup and even a few more NRL matches, and containers to dominate he wouldn't be getting NRL contracts on minimum wage, but maybe 200-300k.

So it's in his best interests to play and play well before he signs any contacts, if he backs himself to stay fit. And if he doesn't then he should just give up

No. 2 Junior Tupou. You can see why he is still playing NSW cup. Has some bad defensive plays in him. But with the ball in hand. Wow. The man could be anything. The way he moves would be difficult to tackle.

We need him to fix those defensive issues as he could be a key member of our team. I bet Sheens would love a winger that you just have to put one-on-one with a little bit of space, and he'll burn his man with speed and footwork. Remember Tuiaki? We had plays designed to get him in that kind of situation. It's why he scored so many tries in 2009.

I really hope the powers at be, at the Tigers, monitor the form of players in the Magpies team closely. Because this year's squad could be one of the strongest in the comp, any player who consistently excels should be considered for promotion. I am really hoping that First Grade players who underperform for a few games, get dropped and, even more so, if a player has an absolute shocker, they also get demoted, no questions asked. I'm sick of the years of mollycoddling guys or sticking by a set of untouchables. If you don't perform you're out. If you play hard and play well, you get promoted. This is a recipe for success, harmony and, in the end, professionalism. The proviso, of course, is that you must have guys knocking on the door. With Tumeth, Sakauru, James, Tupou and Bula waiting in the wings, we might just have that commodity this year.

Just curious, what successful team has ever cycled through their State Cup team consistently over a year? Most of the blokes in reserves are there for a reason.

Only a handful from KOE Cup would get a chance after playing consistently well. The other aspect of all this is, there has to be a perception amongst the players, that if you play well you have a chance of being promoted. The club doesn't do this and they run the risk of losing them.

Yep, rather than a squad stacked with gods of state cup (eg magpies 2021), we have some genuinely exciting prospects like Bula and Tupou.

Yet we have had 5 or 6 dev contracts given to those positions.

And hardly a soul at center (Feledy) or in the halves. I.e. spots we need dev players.

So, we will 'develop' backrowers who effectively have no path for the next three years...and thus leave.

I think the way our game is evolving, with the current rules in place, is that speed at the ruck and edges is essential.
Although big forwards are still needed their low engine capacity and tendency to get in way of attacking play and waste tackles means that some coaches are opting for more mobile second rowers that can also play the middle.

So never enough multi-skilled second row forwards in your top 30 to have available.

And that is where our young tyros are our future strength.
The Pathways truly is our future.
 
It’s nice that KOE boys had a good win last weekend but I think that I’ll just wait it out about mid year to see if the team and some of these “early risers” can maintain this early form before passing my judgement.
 
Anyone know how Jordan Hill's shoulder is? Hurt it last week, stayed on for 15 or so then succumbed.

Good news he might be back soon...mustn't be too serious.

With Ngutlik out for the year, it appears the wing spot in KOE cup is his (must be above Scolari in the pecking order). Hopefully back against Dogs next week!
