Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We need a new fullback and half end of story
Staines to fullback, I think that’s his position and try Wakeham at half. It’s all we have right now, can’t do any worse.

The problem is all this wishing for Brooks to be dropped, punted or whatever is just that - wishing. While ever he’s fit and at the club he will be chosen at half. I don’t get it I really don’t. When are they ever going to realise he is not a game manager!

Admittedly it was only a trial, but the way we played against Canberra with Wakeham and Doueihi in the halves, you would think the coaches might at least entertain the thought of giving it another go. Alas, I’m sure Brooks will be named at half again tomorrow 😞

There is no point trying to play ‘attacking’ footy whilst you don’t have the equivalent of Scott prince and benji
Compare those 2 with smart footy IQ to our current halves pairing
Chalk and cheese
I have a hunch that’s Wakeham and Laurie.
But who knows how long it will take to find that out.

Maybe, we need to ask the Admin of this Club, why we are perennially "on the nose" and why they can't change that perception.
Because they can't figure out how to get a side winning, despite making very significant changes in very many attributes of the club.

There's barely a man or woman left from operations in 2011 and yet we get the same results every season.

Sure we could chuck out the entire board, the last stone unturned, but will that make the players concentrate for 80 mins and play with passion? God only knows.

What I will also say is that unlike most industries, other clubs are actively competing to crush your business. Not just to out-compete you or take some of your client / consumer based, but literally defeat and belittle you every week. They lose if you win, you lose if they win. Tough industry to be in.

Tough industry to be in.

It's not so simple to create a winning team. The criticism about letting Kautago go to me is valid but this is also going to happen.

I don't know - it's like we are duds so we remain duds. It's like the Rorters used to be until they started rorting all the time. I wish we'd do that.

let's forget Canberra are 0 - 2 so formalises are not strong and also that Canberra played the young blokes for a half

Rorters and other clubs like Eels, Dogs, Manly, Broncos and Storm are all still benefitting from the Super League War.

The clubs that manoeuvred themselves to be a critical part of either side's war plans (ARL or News) reaped financial and status rewards that continue to this day. Some clubs like Manly were just lucky to be in a dominant on-field position when Murdoch came knocking, also with Ken Arthurson at the helm, the ARL doubled-down on clubs like Manly.

Rorters in particular, went from battlers to supremos, and they now have the smarts to know how to stay at the top. They bought Phil Gould and Brad Fittler, the two biggest pro-ARL chess pieces of the Super League War, went 100% into bed with Uncle Nick, and the rest is history.

Tigers and Wests on the other hand, nobody cared and they got nothing until they merged (i.e. self-sacrificed). Poor management wasted the initial financing, but then we also had to deal with a decade-long cold-war of in-fighting, which is both our own fault, but also just a built-in factor when trying to combine two entities with a century each of history. By comparison the other mergers - St George basically subsumed Illawarra and Manly backstabbed Bears, so there can't be any in-fighting when one side of the merger kills off the other.

Of course if Tigers were better at what they do, they could have used the good years of the merger to leapfrog to more sustained success. But they failed to accomplish this and I would argue the NRL 2020+ is as lop-sided as it has ever been, so the haves and have-nots haven't really changed in a decade. You can almost predict the Bottom 8 2023 right now - Tigers, Knights, Titans, Warriors, Dragons, Raiders and 2 others taking their turn.

The only back row prospect at the club and he leaves to be 5-6th choice at the Dogs. Incompetent roster management to the extreme.

We literally have no back rowers in nsw cup or flegg other than him. Tumeth is a plodder, solid and gritty, but you can only have so many solid players, you need some with x factor. Kautoga is in the only backrower at the club, even all the way down to harold matts level that has any x factor. We have zero quality back rowers and the one we have we don't secure, but find room to have players like Lomi Saukuru and Fainu in the top 30.

We can't just rely on a bunch of 14-17 year olds to eventually come good and just sit around waiting in the meantime!!!! We should have top prospects in all our grades, the fact that both nsw cup and flegg are still largely made up of no hopers, who'll lever play first grade is a horrendous indictment on the club's passive attitude towards player development and progression.
This news is a joke. Surely. The club needed to do whatever it had to in order to keep him. For this to come in the paper straight after that horrid loss yesterday makes it worse.

Although, how much did Kautoga sell us down the drain...I am assuming he had a dev contract in place prior to signing with dogs. Should have sold a vision for his future at the club with it (not sure if we did). Maybe he never came back to us and just went with the dogs offer. So much for him wanting to do everything to repay the club (which he was quoted at time of debut).

Anyway you look at it, I am filthy it happened! My hatred of the Bulldogs, Ciraldo and Gould is growing by the day! They have beaten us to the punch every single time.

It's bad right. I don't know how we get out of the hole. To be fair we've signed well this season but we still have massive flaws.
