Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

warriors asked about papali when he was over there visiting family during his suspension. Apparently he has said no thanks.
How is this even allowed? I thought clubs weren't explicitly allowed to talk to players under contract until November, if their contract expired at the end of the next season. How is this not player tampering??

And the reason that all those good players we got to strengthen our team,

Effectively are struggling with our team, because Being in this team with Brooks is like playing in a 12 man side, watch API this monday look for his halfs to be backing
him up,
It wont happen,
And this happened all the time for API, the halves of Penrith were always there backing him up.

TAKE NOTE HOW MANY TIMES YOU SEE BROOKSY BACKING API UP, SO HE HAS A PLAYMAKER TO GIVE BALL TO INSTEAD OF A PROP, IF HE CHOOSES TO DO SO.

And this then brings your Papali's into play???
Out the back picking his nose most of the time

I agree we aren’t potentially far away if there are 2-3 key changes in the first 17. For a few years I’ve been watching both our main halves consistently run down any space that has been created out wide by drifting sideways and negating overlaps. The good teams consistently execute these chances and score from them at a lot higher % than WT. As evidenced by the first few rounds we had no shortage of opportunity inside the opposition 20. Our try ratio was really bad.

The other part we consistently are well below average in is pass execution. Some of the recent falcons and passing to the wrong person in overlaps (ie the person who is covered and not open), or passing behind, or over the head, etc, etc, just shows the halves are far from elite or get rushed. Top teams don’t make these mistakes anywhere near as often.

A lot has also been said of how poor our kicking is. Kicking dead, not kicking high enough to allow players to get to the falling ball, kicking over the sideline, poor position kicking, etc. With Ipap’s recent try off a bomb, Wakeham actually nailed the execution, perfect height and landed 1m in front of the tryline for him to run onto with momentum. Again, elite halves do this consistently, we do it rarely.

Finding a quality 7 (and ideally a 6 as well but would settle for one elite half as a starting point) and a game breaking X factor 1 needs to be top of the list for next stage of rebuild. We drop that into our current team and we turn a corner I believe.

The other unknown is how much of our woes is from the coaching team? Is it all through not having enough quality on the key position playing roster or are the structures and coaching contributing? Not quite sure on this front. The key to Benji’s success when he takes over as head coach will be to jag an experienced or quality up and coming assistant coach or 2 (people like Flanagan to assist or a Ciraldo type 4 years ago) to share the load.
We scored 3 tries in reggies off Will Smith kicks and he's the only bloke that hasn't been given a crack.
I'm not sure if he's eligible but if he isn't surely we could use the "there's no other player at the club that plays halfback" reason that allowed Bula to be named in the squad.
I mean it's true right?

I'm sure his mindset was more to stay here and try earn a extension instead of leaving, however if there's no other NRL option and we make it clear he won't be re-signed then it's either 350-400k a year playing in NZ for a few years or being out of the league.

I think he might re-think his choices - especially with a young child to consider

Food for thought at the very least

No way he gets 350k as a fringe player.
Many fringe players choose family over moving ending their career in the NRL often.

Players and clubs can talk, they can’t make formal offers.

John Bateman has rolled out the red carpet to Jack Wighton, relishing the prospect of linking with his former Canberra teammate at the Wests Tigers. Coach Tim Sheens played down rumours with his club last week but the joint-venture remains one of the few sides able to match Wighton's salary demands.
Rather Williams over him if we had a choice..
IMO he is not worth over 1 million but considering how we are going we should take anyone that wants to come.

I love Jack as a player, but in our team (without a game managing half) he can only come to play fullback. You're not paying him $1m+ to sit in the centres and most teams have worked out what he does at 6. He doesn't have a good short kicking game, and tends to over play his hand when ball playing. Jeez I love watching him defend though, just loves belting people.

Wighton is a fine player, but honestly we need a halfback and a fullback. Offer Williams and RTS a million each for 3 years. Our youngsters will be ready then.

This is the exact reason loyalty doesn’t exist.
These players have given their all to the club and you get to read rubbish articles like this

Really disappointing

Weidler has told Sky Sports Radio veteran Jarrod Croker, who is still contracted through to the end of 2024 and is a cult hero at the club, and off-contract winger Jordan Rapana are among the group that are expected to be moved on.

We're closer than 0-5 would suggest. Add a half that can manage a set of 6, and a fullback that can draw an extra defender and get a pass away and we are cooking with gas. Staines I think could actually fill the 1 spot, but we need a to find a half somewhere.
Is Staines a ball player? Never noticed that part of his game.
As for the halfback…

Don't know who it originated with but have heard Kent repeat it several times
Watching FOX NRL on international feed I very quickly came to the conclusion that Kenty is quite prepared to play the puppet. He's definitely in Ricky's pocket. Don't mind if the stories are true. But when they're false and being leaked for an agenda .... I've got a problem with that.

That’s just how footy works man.

It’s not always going to be a fairy tail finish for some players. Clubs have to make tough decisions to move players on
