Firstly, thank you for your service.I am a 35 year veteran and questioned the design when I first saw it; however, when the club stated that they had engaged with Army and mentioned Holsworthy, I was OK with it as I assumed that the images were of special forces soldiers using non standard equipment. Not the route I would have taken; however, I also assumed that it was approved by Defence PR.
ANZAC Day for a returned sailor, soldier or airman/women is personal. The personal emotion reflects their deployed experiences. Some experience loss, grief and detachment - others not so much. Soldiers don't expect the public to understand, nor do they seek recognition for their service or glorification of the events that they experienced. It is simply about a bond with fellow service personnel; both living and dead.
To find that WT have blatantly lied about this incident is, to me, beyond appalling. It may not be that way for you and that is OK. That is the right you have because of the sacrifice of others.
The ANZAC tradition is about loyalty, courage, sacrifice and mateship. Our CEO and Chairman have demonstrated by their actions that they seriously lack loyalty to the players, club and fans, moral courage and do not have the intestinal fortitude to make the hard right decision. They have demonstrated an ineptness in handling this matter that is beyond belief.
Will our CEO, Chairman or the board have the courage to do the right thing?
Secondly, thank you for your post. Getting a POV from someone who this actually affects is important. As I’ve previously posted, both tigers and Kent could be telling the truth but the facts are probably somewhere in between and it’s all he said she said.
Don’t take this the wrong way, I believe tigers supporters and the general public are being gaslighted to generate interest/clicks for the weekend at the expense of the people and families who matter. Anzac Day was high jacked by big business years ago. I don’t agree with it.
The lack of leadership at tigers does not in anyway detract from your contribution to our great nation. I hope it doesn’t reduce your support for watching the tigers on field. If it has then shame on tigers. They need to do better.
