Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Read it again...theres no quote saying anything like that... Just boozs opinion
“If you go to a Wests Tigers you could be wasting your time.”

“He’s still young and has only played 41 games.

“If he came and asked me for an opinion, I’d be happy to give him my thoughts on the better clubs to join.”

- Mike Rush, St Helens CEO

For those who watch the UK Super League, is Lewis Dodd as good or better than Braydon Trindall ?

Also when people question why a good player would consider signing for Wests Tigers. A simple answer is the stats back up the fact the current Wests Tigers team have no issues competing/winning field position and getting into the attacking zone, they simply need some quality to capitalise when getting there.
A good player will recognise this and back themselves to be the difference.

What’s The Buzz: Lewis Dodd warned not to waste his talents with the Wests Tigers

He’s the best young halfback in the Super League and is keen on testing himself in the NRL – but the Wests Tigers need not apply, Phil Rothfield explains why.

The English Super League’s best young halfback wants to play in the NRL – but has been advised against joining the struggling Wests Tigers.

Lewis Dodd is the 21-year-old playmaker who steered St Helens to World Club Challenge victory over Penrith in February, playing a blinder opposite champion No. 7 Nathan Cleary.

He showed remarkable composure to land the golden point field goal.

The youngster has signed up with NRL player agent George Mimis to look for opportunities from 2025, when his contract is up with the English champions.

St Helens boss Mike Rush says he would advise Dodd to look for a strong club.

“If you go to a Wests Tigers you could be wasting your time,” Rush said.

“He’s still young and has only played 41 games.

“If he came and asked me for an opinion, I’d be happy to give him my thoughts on the better clubs to join.”

Rush’s comments sum up the challenges the Wests Tigers are facing in recruitment.

It is well known in English rugby league that Tim Sheens struggled in the Super League before returning to the NRL.

Rush says his club will reject any attempt to sign Dodd before the end of next season.

“Lewis has expressed a desire to play NRL,” Rush said. “And I’m sure George Mimis will eventually be shopping him around.

“We’d never let him go early because it sets a precedent. We don’t want a player saying ‘you did it for him, why can’t you do it for me?’

The St Helens boss previously advised front-row warhorse James Graham about the positives of joining a club like the Canterbury Bulldogs when he left England.

Interestingly, Dodd could be a serious option for the Bulldogs.

“Coaches like Kristian Woolfe are aware of what he can do,” Rush said, “He’s coached him and knows what he can do. He’s super talented and there will be a lot of interest.”

Watching him in the World Club challenge and against St George earlier this year I would say he's much better than Trindall. He out pointed Cleary in that WCC game and kicked the winning field goal. He's the complete package and he's 21

Cheers thnx for that.

I'd doubt we'd be in the mix anyway even if he were to be released early

Agree 100% and that is the sales pitch I would be putting out there to the player managers.

We have shown we can get into the oppositions red zone, just need to find a #7 that wants to back himself and wants to show he can organize a team and capitalize on those opportunities.

Gee if Lee the BS artist reckons we had 16 or 17 show interest in the coaching job, imagine how many half backs we would have lined up at the door of the Zubrick Centre once we put it out there.

Trey Mooney, captain of the Raiders NSW cup team is going to be a star.

He's a problem in cup and carved up for the U19 NSW team.

He's on contract for 23 and 24...
We should definitely make him an offer he can't refuse though.

100% correct on his ability, but I don’t think it’s going unnoticed at the Raiders, I think they are just getting g him as many valuable minutes as they can in KOE Cup before he becomes an NRL regular before too long.

From what I’ve seen I think Braydon Trindall is the player we need at all costs.
He’s proven he’s NRL ready, has a good quality kicking game, looks like he controls and directs a team around like a good halfback should. He seems to defend well, can run the ball well when required and looks to have the confidence level required to succeed.
I believe he’s contracted with the Sharks until the end of 2025, there has to be a way of getting him out of it to allow him to become the regular NRL starting number 7 that he deserves.

Mooney could be anything. He kills it as a 13 but I's love to see him as a big running 6 off a good half like Trindall. Try stopping AJ and Toupou off the end of that!
