Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

FFS, why the heck re-sign Brooks- he has done nothing to deserve it as a 7 and Sheens refuses to play him as a 6 so we can find out. If he doesnt play there and demonstrate good, consistent play there this season- why re-sign him into a new position 'on hope' for a further few years? Madness.

we need new 7 & 6.

Only reason I put Brooks there is because who else is out there?

Yeah we can sign someone new but lets be real.. they'll be worse if not the same as him.

Halves shortage.. we missed the good ones..

I want Brooks gone as much as anyone, but if we bring in someone that is just like him then we're starting from scratch again

The problem is we dont have a 7 so that we can test him at 6.

If all else fails in recruiting a 7 before 30 June- we have to go with Wakeham / Smith at 7 if Brooks keeps failing at 7. Brooks is killing the link between forwards and backs- why would our good ones stay if just accept this mediocracy? If Brooks has not consistently played well at 7 he doesnt get re-signed, nor should he get re-signed into another position (6) on suspicion /potential.

He has done nothing to deserve this loyalty from the club, I dont get it. Successful clubs are ruthless in player retention and recruitment and succession planning- Rooseters, Storm etc. WT have to be too.

Brooks is playing at least to the level of halves that aren't in the top echelon of players and it's so hard to get a decent half.

To me he is a shoe in as one of our halves unless we can better. I'd love to see that happen but I doubt it will happen. It's like we got rid of Hastings and we don't have better even though I watched him the other day and he was poor. He is still better than Doueihi. Hastings and Brooks in the halves is better than Doueihi and Brooks.

I want to see Laurie given a shot as well. If he can do the job great. If not what do we lose.

I don’t remember any thing written when the Roosters or Panthers got rid of him. Why it is a problem now I don’t know. The bloke is a fruit loop.
Pretty sure it was Ronny there last Thursday night at the 10 years Members Function not looking too down in the dumps as he tucked into the celebratory pavlova.

Straight away.. Wakeham / Smith halves is shit, but yeah give it a go to see how it is before I mock it even more.

I agree, go out and try find a half.. but at this moment in time there's a halves shortage and wankers saying stay away from us.

From what I’ve seen I think Braydon Trindall is the player we need at all costs.
He’s proven he’s NRL ready, has a good quality kicking game, looks like he controls and directs a team around like a good halfback should. He seems to defend well, can run the ball well when required and looks to have the confidence level required to succeed.
I believe he’s contracted with the Sharks until the end of 2025, there has to be a way of getting him out of it to allow him to become the regular NRL starting number 7 that he deserves.
Unfortunately, Sharks will want him for cover during Origin.

I've seen an abundance of opportunities created,
I've seen plenty of...
- Dropped balls,
- Bombed tries
- Centres rushing into no mans land - creating massive holes to be run / kicked through,
- Fullbacks no where near where they need to be in defense, And not even attempting to look like they wanna be where they need to be.
- Plenty of young blokes running horrible lines
- Standing flat footed and ball watching
- Over-rated Middle forwards running with absolutely no awareness (In front of the Ball Carrier) Obstructing defenders when they were never getting the ball leading dis-allowed tries.
- ZERO Pressure or Kick Chase

More than Plenty....
And your stats are deceiving, not once would I consider a game this year where has our forward pack dominated the opposition....
We scare no-one
- Bateman is the only smokey to making something happen.

It seems very easy here to say "We had possession and got no points" Shoot the halves.....
Halves aren't the (Only) ones giving away stupid penaltys, dropping good ball (Well, not the majority of the dropped balls) and not pressuring the opposition.
Yeah my fingers got sore typing all the things the team seem to be inept at which seem to be standard coaching stuff?
- ZERO Pressure or Kick Chase -
OMG! That does my head in, it’s the simplest thing to coach and achieve on field is it???
F me the bacics please 🙏 coach some.
But in saying that how long have they been playing footy for?

He isn’t a good player.
Merely surviving on over inflated reputation and as injury prone as anyone who has ever laced up.
Totally agreed.

Get rid of Talau...

We have to be hard nozed. The one thing we have seen from teams that made the top 8 is when they are out of it they ditch players that don't perform.

We need to ditch the injury prone and stop thinking we can grow rough diamonds.

Not a half. Is an outside back. Navren Willett. Finishing his schooling this year and joining Balmain SG Ball in 2024.
likely to be our right centre in the future. can find the line, big strong and athletic. will be interesting to see how he develops but is a supreme specimen. wouldn't be surprised to see him on the list of supplementary players next year with the likes of Fa'agutu, Miller, Da Silva, Laulili'i, Sukkar, Saukuru, Lawry etc.

I don’t get this argument which I see a lot. It you think Brooks is rubbish, paying him $300k instead of $1m won’t help. He’ll still be rubbish. He needs to leave for his own sake and we need him to leave.

He's total rubbish as a 7. He's passable as a 6 if you have a good 7 and 9 (which we'd have with Hunt and Koroisau in that situation).

When the cap is $12.3m next year, $300k will be less than 1/40th of the cap. Plus, Brooks will have our long-term player allowance, so his number against the cap will be like what? $50k?

We can and should improve on him, but if he's going to count for only $50k against the cap, he's worth having.
