Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If it’s tass we could get, I would suggest passing on him and saving our bucks for a good half. Tass ain’t gonna take the tigers to the promised land
Perhaps but,, if it takes the ship off the bottom of the ocean and starts to help it refloat, it's not a bad move. Players will join a club that looks as though it's on the up.

Three people that aren’t always mentioned that I’d love to still be around.
Jock Madden - showed real potential and a lot of upside. I feel with him we would have a lot more repeat sets - great kicker.
Moses Suli - we are missing a centre and he has turned into a solid player
Andrew Webster - has worked wonders with the Warriors

Apart from Suli I agree. I only say that about Suli because of his poor attitude.

I don’t think we had a chance with Suli, he was being a teenage sook once his money was rolling in, but if we were better at player management then it might have been different.
Yes, we invested in Jock and due to this, out of him and Hastings I am more annoyed about jock, what was the point in the investment when you then let ‘em go and sign crappier players like Wakes and Smith.
When it comes to assistant coaches it’s got to be hard co as soon as a new head coach comes in he usually clears out the coaching staff. Gardiner too seemed like a decent coach and I have said for years their needs to be a development system for young coaches so we develop our own coaches.
Oh and Jock is 6 for donkeys nrl side this week.

They do. For sure.

But there's context around Hastings' exit. The Bateman problem to say the least...

Yeh bigger picture was probably looked at go for Hastings to get two extra wins or look elsewhere to try land Moses, Bateman.

Really judgement should be held until 2024 halves come to light.

Think the mentality of maintaining 9th has to be fixed and Jackson decision a part of trying to fix that

OK what is everyone's thoughts for next season if these two became options as that experienced half to provide that direction & backline leadership we lack. I have a feeling it'll be one of them?

Mitchell Pearce (35 next year) or Chad Townsend (33 next year)
You cant tell me there is not one young early 20 year old half somewhere in this world that has talent, thats not worth having a shot at.

Someone earning less than 300k that we could take a punt on, offer 950k for 2 years with clubs option of a further
3 years 1.8ml ??? NEG.

Got to be a better option than just continuing with what weve had for all these failed years.

And now we have everyone talking about Townsend & pearce and a whole heap of use by next year halfs.

Lets give a kid with talent a look at the possibility of a future with this club.

Not offer another 2 or 3 years towards someones retirement years.
Otherwise we will have a continual collection of wooden spoons.

I would argue that if it was Bateman that didn’t want to play with Hastings you don’t sign Bateman.
That's certainly an argument that can made. I'm still not sure I agree with it.

Without the benefit of hindsight, if you go back in time and ask whether you would trade an international second rower of Bateman's quality for a recycled halfback in the wooden-spoon winning side, it's probably not cut and dry.

Because it seems the coaches want experience & leadership in this position and potentially sign a talented half to then take over from them in 1-2 seasons.

I'd sign Townsend for 2 years. Laurie for 1 year and try and get Volkman and Sanders out of the Warriors and Eels respectively given their paths are blocked.

Then I would sit on the marquee budget for the next 2/3 years to see what the best case scenario is for signing a halfback to replace Townsend in '26.

That, to me, is realistic, achievable and is good enough to challenge for the eight.

Yep, couldn't agree more. Whether publicly stated or not, I think '23 was always a halves experiment. It's gone belly up quick-smart, but at least the answers in regards to Doueihi and Brooks are now clearer to the powers that be.

....or one would hope.

So he should be - the souths deal is a rort. Some garbage the they only want him as a centre - so what - both raiders and dolphins were prepared to pay a million more than souths offer. The NRL is an absolute joke.
Been that way since Melbourne Storm. Not sure why a wighton deal on 200k less a season is drawing headlines. Infact it's the only one that make sense. Has been making bank for 10 years and willing to take a 15% pay it to try and win a premiership.

How Souths, Penrith, roosters, Melbourne fit everyone under the cap should be the investigation - not that he's taking unders

So he signs with souths for for a million less than raiders offering. Souths reckon they can sign him for less because they want him as a centre not a 5/8 - farcical situation. Canberra have put in a formal complaint to the NRL and have demanded that the contract be closely scrutinised.
Munster re-signed with Storm for about $1.6M less than our offer didn’t he? Usually it works that the incumbent team has the advantage that a player will stay for less rather than go for less. Salary cap is not working in evening out the talent.
