Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

My apologies but I specifically responded to a post that referred to the race and mental health card argument. So perhaps there's been a misunderstanding.

(And this is why I hate introducing these matters in conversations as they disrupt unrelated threads).
Given the racial abuse Latrell copped at a game not too long ago, and the fact I wouldn't personally like to see him leave the game due to something like this (as well as the subsequent threats his partner received on social media) I'm somewhat sympathetic to this. It's not a joking matter.
I am however more concerned how teams like the Rabbitohs and Roosters continually exploit the salary cap and manipulate the NRL in other ways. But at the same time wish my club was the same - not corrupt but outwitting or outsmarting them.

Please know that I was not trying to discourage you from voicing your opinion on either topic but moreso saying there are larger concerns at play here. We suck and I am more focused on the Wests Tigers.
Thanks for ur reply, I have no intention to hurt any one , but it seems that we get shot down as soon as we try to give are view , u mentioned latrell getting abuse , which I totally agree , no one should bring his family into any conversation. But latrell is one of the dirtiest players going around yet he never gets called out for his actions thus leaving the door open for the crazy twitter lot . Again I will call it if I see something that is wrong but I will never cross the line to make my point , it’s a shame the woke brigade don’t follow the line , cheers and thanks for ur comments

Agree on the need for a ball playing 13. Think Matamua is the guy (and possible future captain), though not sure how far away he is from being a week in week out starting 13. Definitely not this year, and likely not next year. Personally think Curtis Sironen in that role for a season or two before transitioning to Matamua is our best bet. Not sure when he is off contract at St. Helens though.

Regarding halves, Lam orDodd the two best for our needs in Super league. Neither are great but better than what we have.

?????? No idea what u mean
If the Tigers don't learn from their mistakes moving forward we will be stuck at the bottom of the ladder with no improvement in sight. You cannot move forward in life repeating your mistakes from your past, all you are doing is running in circles with no future.

It’s a shame we didn’t get Nathan brown , he would have solved that problem

I was pretty impressed with Townsend in a video I saw with him miked up at the Cowboys last season but then again, he was absolute shit in his short stint at the warriors before that.

You would have to suspect that he would most likely bring his Warriors form here if it was to happen.

Anyone else heard the rumour about Chad Townsend to the tigers in 2024. Cowboys to pay up to half freight...

Todd Payten and Sheens/Benji are very close. Supposedly a win win for both teams. But is Townsend the right fit for us on a two year deal?
Your question makes no sense.

If it gets rid of Brooks, no matter who or what, if its a swap deal for an esky of Gatorade and some strapping its a good deal.

Hope it’s true, sounds too good to be true though.

Townsend and Laurie could work.

Why would the Cowboys want to get rid of Townsend? He was instrumental in their surge last year surely they stick by him
They have the best young halfback in qld in Tom Duffy in their nrl squad who is playing qld cup. Dogs tried to snatch him before signing the kid from the Broncos so mayby they think he is ready to come on in partnership with Dearden

We gotta cull;

Brooks, nofo, talau, top 30 flops like Fainu, Manaima.

Riley can probably stay on a cup contract, he isn't first grade quality.

Considering they are forwards it's probably too early to call fainu and Manama flops at their age, just a bit ridiculous that they are on a top 30 and not a development or cup contract

The club expect Curtis to sign an extension. Dodd is a world class talent. And I don't throw that term around lightly.

Smithies looks like he plays very tough. He’s young and will only get better, not sure we need him just yet, but could be one to keep an eye on for when he’s officially off contract a season or two down the track.
Tracey would be a good acquisition, plays well in a number of positions.
Lam didn’t set the world on fire in his few games at 7 for the Roosters, but he is young and should be approaching his prime. How’s he going in the Super League ?
Iro goes ok, but doesn’t look very fast, I’m not certain he’s as good or any better than To’a who is under rated.
Metcalfe is very quick, but also very injury prone.
Bailey Sironen gets injured far too often for my liking. Who is he better than of our current back rowers ?
Smithies is an outstanding back row forward. Not a guy to play on an edge or produce a ton of highlight plays. But his workrate is prodigious (he's topped 70+ tackles on multiple occasions), defence first rate and he's got that dog in him. Really stiffens up the midfield. I've not seen Lam pulling up too many trees.

I watched NRL 360 today and it beggars belief how dodgy the whole setup is. Bad enough you have a high-profile agent with a massive conflict of interest hosting the panel. But then you have Paul Kent who it's obvious is little more than Ricky Stuart's glove puppet. Whenever anything negative emerges about Canberra he's rushing to Ricky's defence like he's a family member. When Bateman (who prior to Canberra had NEVER been questioned regarding his professionalism) was trying to negotiate his contract Kenty threw him under the bus. Then when George Williams (who likewise had never been in trouble at any point in his career) was struggling with homesickness during COVID with a young kid on the way Kenty threw him under the bus. Now Wighton is moving and Kenty's outburst today was completely bonkers. The question which really needs to be asked is WHY have so many top players decided they need to make an exit? For me the common denominator in all of these cases is Sticky - who is notoriously hard on his players when things don't go his way. Surely he can't keep dodging the blame forever?

Mate they’re a complete bunch of $&@@&&$&& $&@&&! Seriously it’s like watching a soap opera drama this drama that. I used to watch it but it’s just turned ti complete crap and I think a huge reason for people leaving the raiders is because of the location seriously who would want to live in Canberra

Would you take Lam? I was probably not fair on Dodd - certainly good. Didn't see any of him before his injury so all I'm going off is this season and St helens obviously not going the best.

Dodd's just returned from a ruptured Achilles. Under most circumstances that's career-threatening. But he was only twenty when he suffered it and consequently he still has good blood supply to the lower legs (it drops off dramatically in the mid twenties) and the growth hormones are still flooding his system. Quite frankly I was astonished by his recovery. Bear in mind - that game against Penrith (where he went toe-to-toe with Cleary and sank the winning drop goal) was only his second game back. St. Helens have had some bad results since then and some of the fans have got on Dodd's back. But it should be remembered that the club had its entire first choice pack injured and several experienced backs. The other thing is his decision to get an NRL agent has - predictably - gone down badly with the fans. The kid is special. Everybody knows it. One of those guys who just does everything well. Mind of a veteran. Great short kicking game. Great support player. The best defensive scrum half in the competition - and its not even close.
