Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Does anybody think that Bateman was worth 800 K plus a year and 200,000 pound transfer, not showing me anything special, a lot of young middle, edge forwards around that were a lot cheaper.

I think it’s gonna take some time I think Tim sheens mentioned something about him not having a pre season haha I honestly think we will see his best footy next year

Worth every cent IMO... IF we actually had decent halves that controlled and created chances he would be killing it.. I have been saying this but it's like an NFL Team with no Quarterback and that leads to losing.

I said before he signed Bateman is not the player he was at Canberra. He's picked up a few injuries during that stint and following his return. Pump into Google images him at the Raiders. His body shape is completely different - especially around the chest and shoulders. He looks like he's lost several pounds of lean muscle. Generally speaking when players lose a lot of muscle mass it's because they're struggling with some kind of chronic injury. The consensus lately seems to be he's struggling with an ankle injury. Whilst this makes sense what makes even more is he's never fully recovered from that shoulder surgery at Canberra. No offence but I'm pretty unconvinced by the quality of surgeries being undertaken on NRL players. Great surgeons go where the business is most lucrative - which generally means the US - or Europe. For me far too many NRL players seem to be coming out of surgery worse than when they went in. I think this is the reason Manly (and a couple of other clubs) have abandoned domestic medicine and gone straight to the US.
Is Bateman worth 800k? Ordinarily I'd say no. But in today's market where the likes of Schuster is picking up even more despite offering very little - who knows? What I will say is regardless of whether Bateman is not the athlete he once was - I have no doubt he will be one of the most competitive forwards on the pitch. You'll never catch him lollygagging around like some players I've seen playing for the Tigers. The guy is one of the toughest rugby players you'll ever see. Utterly fearless. And smart, too.

Mate they’re a complete bunch of $&@@&&$&& $&@&&! Seriously it’s like watching a soap opera drama this drama that. I used to watch it but it’s just turned ti complete crap and I think a huge reason for people leaving the raiders is because of the location seriously who would want to live in Canberra

Me! I choose to live down here nestled amongst the wineries of Murrumbateman with a few acres, a couple of cows, beers on tap in the bar. Plenty to do and plenty to see in the area. Don't get enough footy played down here but can go and see the faders or brumbies for a fix every now and then.

Biggest problem isn't Canberra, it's Wests Tigers. They have only won a single game in Canberra since I have been here. I was also here in 89 as a Tigers supporter - so lots of bad footy memories.

Please don’t put words in my mouth I never mentioned mental health at all , this is why we get pissed of with the woke brigade, u twist everything to suit ur agenda. I mentioned the race card which has been brought up by people on NRL 360 , even wigthon said he wanted to play with his brothers , so please get it right before u verbal me .
I often disagree with what you say but to be fair this time even Souths brought up the race card. They mentioned one of the reasons they can get him so cheap is because indigenous players see how connected they are with community and want to be part of it. So if its ok for them to use race as a reason they get players i guess its fair game when they called out for it.

Better than a lot of other places around the country but rubbish for young people looking to party. Great place for families.

I watched NRL 360 today and it beggars belief how dodgy the whole setup is. Bad enough you have a high-profile agent with a massive conflict of interest hosting the panel. But then you have Paul Kent who it's obvious is little more than Ricky Stuart's glove puppet. Whenever anything negative emerges about Canberra he's rushing to Ricky's defence like he's a family member. When Bateman (who prior to Canberra had NEVER been questioned regarding his professionalism) was trying to negotiate his contract Kenty threw him under the bus. Then when George Williams (who likewise had never been in trouble at any point in his career) was struggling with homesickness during COVID with a young kid on the way Kenty threw him under the bus. Now Wighton is moving and Kenty's outburst today was completely bonkers. The question which really needs to be asked is WHY have so many top players decided they need to make an exit? For me the common denominator in all of these cases is Sticky - who is notoriously hard on his players when things don't go his way. Surely he can't keep dodging the blame forever?
Buzz rothfield loves bringing up the fact that Latrell Mitchell took less to not sign with the tigers, he’s brought it up a thousand times on that show! Where was Kent with his comments then??? Nothing. Crickets!

100% right! Watch how many time Brooks gives him the ball right when he’s about to get hit!

This has been one of Brooks flaws his whole career, he throws the wrong pass, too hard or to soft or hospital. This is one of the reasons I’m done with him. Other than learn how to tackle about half dozen years ago he is not working on his flaws. It took rowdy 5 years before he caught one, somehow Garner seem to catch a few, but did you see flippers blowing up when that rocket of a short ball hit him in the face, he’s had his eyes fixed and could probably see it coming this time, and all of a sudden one of Luke’s specialties the short ball rocket to a flying runner, bam straight in the kisser.
Maybe I should’ve posted that in the things that make you laugh thread.

I was shocked to hear what Schuster was reportedly on when I heard it, assuming 850k or there abouts is anywhere near correct.

I had big rapps on this kid when he first hit the scene but since then he's put on a lot of beef, caused dramas at Manly with his demands over a period of time wanting to be the 5/8.

I still think that he is a very good player, it's just that Manly haven't been able to get that sort of value out of him so far with his limited time on the field and some bad form thrown in.

I guess most teams would have players on big dollars that aren't always living up to their big pay packets.

Was that the game played in snow?

He's a ball playing 13 imo....
