Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Dragons board/management are the worst in the league (yes even behind us) don't let the media fool you, Hunt and the club are extremely offside and the only thing holding them together is Griffen. Hunt was lowballed 700k for his extension (500k pay cut) and didn't take that great esp with the raised salary cap, they did come together and agree to a figure closer to 850k but there's a bit of heat between both parties. The fact no one turned up to the clubs presentation night speaks a thousand words.

They're pretty close to bringing Shane Flanagan to the club and sacking Griffen and when this happens expect Hunt to go and Kyle to come in - with Amone, Sullivan and Kyle to fight it out

Hunt took a meeting from the Dogs late last year and is keen to stay in Sydney as he's raising his own family and just bought a property too.

Add an extra year and match his salary and he'll come imo - he'll be 35 by the end of the 3 year deal which isn't bad at all, for anyone questioning his skill set go watch SOS game 3.... get it done
This aged well…

Wonder if any flow on effects .
ROFL, were not going to sign DCE.

Ofcourse I wonder how DCE will go as NR6. Clearly we know who runs the club and which coach will be axed soon.

But hey, all kudos to Shane Flanagan. He has turned that team around. It isn't like Siebold is unfamiliar with a head coach getting knifed.

Which recalls me to an earlier board decision. Madge was reappointed head coach, and quickly at that at the end of 2021/start of 2022. There were 2x assistants appointed, Nathan Cayless and Gardiner. Shane Flanagan did apply for the assistant job.

Does everyone here agree that Shane Flanagan should have been given the nod then? If not head, at least as assistant?
Yes 100% he was going to knife Madge then. Yes I actually get the board ducking those shenanigans. That said, had Shane taken the assistant position we would have seen basic skills and other practices being done right. Okay we would have seen Brooks or Doueihi punted for Kyle F... still not seeing a problem here.

Basic skills and other practices done right 😂😂😂😂
They are bloody first graders and should have this before making it

Having watched most of the games this year we have done very well with go forward from the pack, possession % and tackles inside opposition 20. Surely any good prospective halves see that they will have a solid base to work from and shine if they want to back themselves.

I know the media talks us down as a shambles but we aren’t that far away. We’ve been in all games but 1 and there has actually been steady (slow but definitely trending upwards) improvement week to week.

Hopefully Benji and Sheens are selling the above actual situation when they are talking to prospective half recruits. Would also be nice if the media actually pushed this side of things rather than constant negatives as overcoming negative press is one of the hardest parts of turning a club around from being on the nose to a destination club.

I saw a rumour here a year or so ago that Garner informed the club that he would look at his options elsewhere for 2023 onwards. So we were never in the hunt to keep him.
Yeah, I think I vaguely recall hearing that and for a long time it was presumed he would be going back to Manly.

Come to think of it, it's amazing how many of our players have left and gone to either Manly or Penrith in recent times.

Hopefully can get some more wins so we’re more attractive destination. Only way we can get out of where we are. Need MINIMUM one decent half to have a chance (ideally two…).

Starting to put together our backline but need a left centre. Just don’t think Naden is ever going to get the brain explosions out of his game. Think To’a could make it though on the right…

Potentially CNK on the left now RTS is coming back? Not sure what side he has played on when in the centres tbh

Tonight showed what Brooks CAN be.

I'm starting to believe Brooks will be extended. The question is, does he get partnered with Daine Laurie who seems to be finding his feet, Wakeham who shows occasional flashes, an older option from outside the club to offer direction, an untested player from outside the club, or with Flanagan moving to Manly.....Schuster?

We're cooked if the have Brooks as the 7 next year. Still not convinced he should be kept based off one game where he played very very well but also fluffed some last tackles when on the attack. But if they did, it HAS to be as a 6 on no more than about 500k...

Schuster needs to get his head sorted before anyone considers signing him. Very unprofessional to allow his weight to balloon up like he is. It's hard enough watching Latrell. But at least he's productive.
To be fair, Schuster doesn't look fat. Dude is just a big unit. I think it's more to do with injury recovery & rehabilitation that gets him offside.

There are only so many 'gifted' players in the NRL. There are several Tom Dearden's. If you get a shot at someone that can dominate, you need to consider it at least.

6 or 7 doesn't really make that much difference. What he needs is someone to take some of the control around the opposition try line. Brooks is talented, but seems limited in his vision onfield. Someone that can create a little bit alongside him makes him a significantly more effective player.

Shades of Jamal Idris

He looks to have put on a good 10-15kgs compared to last year & it doesn’t look like muscle. His lateral movement looks shot atm which is never a good sign.

He is naturally a big body but as a 5/8th or lock he needs to trim down otherwise he will be worked all over & just won’t last at nrl level.
