Appointment of Scott Fulton to Wests Tigers

He calls himself the boss. Then blames everyone else e.g I just resource the footy department that doesn’t even have a GM. Where I work the boss is ultimately responsible for what goes on under their watch. He’s an utter failure and should leave.

You don’t have to agree.

And I've been the boss - You're right....
The Boss is ultimately responsible when the consumer isn't happy with what they're getting....
The Boss is certainly the one people hold responsible, And whinge at when they're not getting what they want.
Pretty much like you constantly do...

That doesn't ultimately mean that me (As the boss) had any direct contribution to the problem whatever consumer might be having - Or any effect on what it is they don't like.

As the Boss,
I employ what I consider to be the right Staff for the job from the people that actually want the job,
Give them the right environment, systems, supervision and training to complete the job satisfactorily on a consistent basis.
Unfortunately, As the Boss - What I strive every minute of the day to provide.... Isn't always what's delivered.

would be such a WT’s thing to do to sign a fat, lazy & uninterested footballer in Josh Schuster… keep him away please

100%
Imagine all them young kids coming through....
They'd all be looking up to him because he's been that big name
kid a few years in front of him... He's always been a big deal.

- Absolute Suicide!!

Manly Sea Eagles recruitment guru Scott Fulton has quit the club to join the Wests Tigers.

After Saturday night’s stirring win over the Panthers, it is a hugely significant appointment for the wooden spooners, who have struggled for more than a decade to build a competitive roster.

Fulton has been largely credited for Manly’s impressive list management in recent years. The likes of Haumole Olakau’atu, Tolu Koula, Jason Saab, Josh Schuster, Taniela Paseka and Kelma Tuilagi were all identified and signed by Fulton.

The Wests Tigers have been terrible in recruitment for too long.

They paid over $800,000 for the likes of Moses Mbye, Josh Reynolds, Russell Packer and other players who just couldn’t aim up.

Fulton is expected to start straight away at the Wests Tigers.

While the club is celebrating Saturday night’s magnificent win, they are also being realistic about the amount of work ahead for the club to become a genuine premiership contender.

Hence the move for Fulton.

“It’s only one win and there’s still a long way to go,” said chairman Lee Hagipantelis said, “We won’t be getting ahead of ourselves.

“I’m just happy for the players, the coaching staff, our members, fans and our sponsors who have stuck solid over a tough period.”

It’s interesting that Hagipantelis personally accepts the blame for the Wests Tigers’ position while others have taken aim at CEO Justin Pascoe and called for axing.

“I don’t see how you can relate Justin’s role to on-field performance,” he said.
“People can think I’m being naive by saying that but Justin is fulfilling his role to the satisfaction of the board. He makes operational decisions on a day-to-day basis.

“He makes financial and commercial decisions – and we’ve done very well in those areas.

“His role with the football department is to ensure it’s fully resourced and funded.

“Justin has never appointed a coach or terminated a coach.

“He has never recruited a player. He does not have the authority to do that. The board signs off on that on the recommendation of a list management committee.”

Hagipantelis accepts full accountability himself for 273 days with a victory.

For the toughest days in the club’s history.

“I’m chairman of the and I’ll accept responsibility,” he said, “I’m accountable to the directors who appointed me.

“If they are dissatisfied with my performance they will tell me so and I will step down.

“It hasn’t got to that stage. After the win over Penrith I got some really encouraging messages from Nick Politis and Nick Pappas, two great chairman.

“It is very humbling. I’ve learnt a lot in this job but I have more to learn.”

He also insists the club is on the right track with veteran coach Tim Sheens and the plan for him to hand over Benji Marshall for 2025.

“Prior to the Penrith game we were pretty gutted,” he said.

“I can’t explain why we were zero from seven because I know how hard they’ve been working.

“As for Tim, I was in the sheds after the game in Bathurst.

“I watched as the players came in and the way they greeted Tim and how he is incredibly respected by the group.

“We have a two-year transition happening. And Tim thinks Benji has come far beyond where he expected him to be at this stage.

Don’t know about unflattering pic, more like unflattering face! The camera can’t do much to improve that face, I don’t think even air brushing would help lol. Not that I’m any oil painting to judge mind you, but geez that redness!! 😂

Yeah that seems to be him now... Good to see not only us produce plodders... Only top tier clubs don't.
But do yiu recall. Him at his best he can be damaging... Maybe a change is what he needs?

Possibly Ink but remember they punted Foran to give him the 5/8 role and he doesn’t seem to be delivering. I’d want to try and work out why that’s happened before I’d even consider him.
And now a dust up at training? Seems like there’s a bit going on around him at Manly.

According to Brent Read Tim Sheens was not in on the appt of Fulton.
Interesting ....that might upset the current old Warren Mc and Sheens likes to surround himself with his own people.

They sure did. He also lost according to some reports 12kgs in the off season (debunks the lazy / poor trainer myth if true) which is massive probably his lowest weight since he was 15/16.
If he wasn’t injured he would be playing 1st.

NRL360 claiming Sheens was not consulted re hiring Fulton ?
Saying it was all done by front office .Hard to believe is it true ?

Inside the power play at Wests Tigers: Why board hid Fulton signing from Sheens

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis has defended the club’s decision to sign Scott Fulton as the club’s head of recruitment without consulting NRL coach Tim Sheens.

The Tigers last week secured the services of Bob Fulton’s son, a long-time talent scout at Manly, to join the club immediately.

The Penrith Panthers take on the Wests Tigers in Round 9 of the 2023 NRL Premiership.

The decision came as a surprise to Sheens and his right-hand man, Warren McDonnell, whose role in recruitment at the club has now been diluted.

Hagipantelis said the board, alongside chief executive Justin Pascoe, were responsible for negotiations and didn’t feel they had an obligation to keep the coach, or McDonnell, in the loop with their plans for the club.

“The decision was made in the best interest of the Wests Tigers,” Hagipantelis said. “An opportunity presented itself to the board. The board dealt with it quickly, undertaking all necessary due diligence. There was of course a great deal of commercial sensitivity given the gentleman involved was employed by another club, and we were very respectful of that.

“The decision was taken to deal with the matter at board level with our CEO. We acted promptly and in the best interest of the club. This is another resource which we’ve added to our football department and we’re very excited to welcome Scott to the Wests Tigers.”

Fulton will take over the recruitment of the NRL squad, while McDonnell has been told he will now focus on junior pathways.

The decision to pursue Fulton came after the club missed out on signing Parramatta’s Mitchell Moses after a widely publicised pursuit of the halfback.
Tim Sheens’ joy at the Tigers’ first win of the season was tempered by the news the club’s board had employed a new recruitment boss without his knowledge.

McDonnell had asked to negotiate on his own with Moses’ agent Isaac Moses given his relationship with the player-manager and his preference to keep discussions confidential.

The Tigers board granted McDonnell his request but were disappointed with the outcome of the negotiations. An offer was never taken back to the board for approval, leaving Tigers powerbrokers concerned the club had been used as leverage for Moses to extract more money out of Parramatta.

Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe has twice previously moved on McDonnell from the club.

He returned to the club at the end of 2021 when Sheens made it a prerequisite for him accepting the job as the Tigers’ director of rugby league, with an ultimatum that forced the club to move on highly regarded former general manager Adam Hartigan.

Hartigan has since been employed by Bulldogs general manager Phil Gould to work alongside Cameron Ciraldo and the club’s recruitment staff.

Tigers sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the delicate nature of the situation, say that Sheens’ nose has been put out of joint by Fulton’s appointment but Hagipanetlis said he did not envisage any tension as a result of the club’s decisions.

“I do not anticipate there will be any concerns or issues with what is a wonderful addition to our football department despite the efforts of some to suggest that there may be,” Hagipantelis said.

“Everyone that is employed by the Wests Tigers is employed for the sole purpose of furthering the interest of the Wests Tigers only. This was not a situation of our making in that the opportunity was presented to the board.

“The board fully explored the opportunity and made the decision that the engagement of Scott would be in the best interest of the Wests Tigers. He’s employed in addition to our current resources and we think he will greatly benefit our recruitment program.”
Fulton had been in talks with the Dragons about joining the embattled club, which risks missing the finals for the fifth successive year.

But with the club yet to decide on who will be their coach beyond this season, the negotiations with Fulton never reached the pointy end. He became increasingly frustrated and was open to other opportunities.

That was when the Tigers pounced. It was only last week the board floated the prospect of luring Fulton to Concord, and within days the agreement had been brokered.

The Tigers recognise the speed with which Fulton closes out player deals, and were impressed at the ease in which their own negotiations with him progressed.

“The board and I acted swiftly when the opportunity was presented to us and we believe the appointment of Scott Fulton will be a great addition to the club and the current football program,” Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe said.

“The board and I acted swiftly when the opportunity was presented to us and we believe the appointment of Scott Fulton will be a great addition to the club and the current football program,” Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe said.
We beat the premiership favourites but on Monday the club finds a way to get its self in the media for the wrong reasons

Lee shut up and do your job no 1 wants to hear from you

So, Pascoe and Lee have nothing to do with football operations? That will do me.

To do this in secrecy from your head coach is absolutely dumb as hell.
Yeah I doubt Hagi and Pascoe will be getting chrissy cards from Tim & wazza this year... I don't like it, but I do like it.... Fulton sounds like he's really in the loop with a LOT of good players, do we want someone & something new with fresh ideas or do we stick with tweedle Dee & dim timbo & wazza macca?
We just seem to go from one bloody drama to another tho

Fultons a good signing, will help having a guy with his level of connections around the league especially in Western Sydney - apparently we fought off knights, raiders and parra for him or something along those lines

He also has good links with multiple high level agents which will help us with recruitment, he also brought over Metcalf to manly pretty sure they have a good relationship too, just another small example

If telling Sheens, Benji and McDonnell has any chance to jeopardise that move of it getting leaked and it ruling us out… I for one like the thinking.

One thing for sure it does show us how the board feel about McDonnell, especially so close after giving him sole control of the moses saga and him unfortunately failing.

I personally think it's a good appointment &
have no problem with Sheens not being kept
in the loop seeing he won't be coach after
next year. Fulton has got good connections
and is an astute negotiater by all accounts.
McDonnell is a good guy but we needed
change there tbh. He's not savvy, more of
a pub guy without sounding snooty. On the
other hand, I hope the fact that Pascoe has
sacked him twice and now demoted him
doesn't cause any internal problems. Here's
hoping anyway they're all on the same page

We

Don't know how i feel about this..
Me either but I know how TS will feel.
Wonder if Benji knew -and worked around Tim with Lee/Pascoe.
Not a good scene for a club trying to build solidarity. Sounds like McDonnell perceived not to have done his job properly with Moses.
All very messy and just shows the continued communication problems at hq.
