Next Weeks Team V Rabbitohs

Aside from the penalty kick not finding touch I think Wakeham was okay today. He’s doing the job he was recruited to do - play a reasonable standard of footy without being great. Made over 20 tackles today and didn’t miss many. I’m not convinced Laurie improves things in that position.
Agree….Brooks & Wakeham will be for the rest of the year..Sheens confirmed this

If that is the case then we will be getting a second wooden spoon for sure. Laurie is a much better player than Wakeham he set up a few tries in the New South Wales cup on the weekend.

Although we won against the Dragons it was not a very good performance by the boys. I would make a few changes especially now that we can pick players from our reserve team. Firstly I would put Daine Laurie in at 5/8 for Brandon Wakeham who is not a first grader. Secondly I would put Shawn Blore in for John Bateman who will probably be out with his hamstring injury. Then I would bring in Will Smith on the bench who is a good utility and can cover many positions & even replace Koroisau at hooker if needed. Jake Simpkin for mine is a waste on the bench as he does not get enough game time and cannot cover the backline. I would also give Justin Matamua an opportunity on the bench to replace AJ Kepaoa who is a liability in defence. And lastly I would also bring in a Aitasi James for Alex Twal which will give us more aggression from the bench.
in my humble, don't mess with the spine now.
Tommy Talau was horrific at centre, Suli burnt him deluxe at one point.
Don't change what isn't busted for now (except for Bateman and Naden) bring them back when ready.

I'm not convinced. Wakeham kicks goals as well. His defense has been pretty good. Laurie won't give us the same kicking game and I'm not convinced he can defend as well either.

We might get the spoon anyway.

That is the worst side that we could pick , are u sure ur not a south’s supporter 🙄🤔🥴

This combo will only get better with more time together.

I’d like to see Reilly given a run in the centres. Talau doesn’t pass enough. Reilly is very skilful and will help release Tupou. Only question mark is his defending against bigger centres.

Having said that, I’d start with the same team as against the Dragons, but add Bateman in for Kepaoa. Talau will be better for the longer run, hopefully they can identify areas to improve and apply next week.

Agreed. They're likely both not in the long term plans, but chopping and changing them means we'll lose more games and I'm enjoying winning the odd game.

The club recruitment seems to be focused around the halves and rightly so. For 2024.

The one certain thing is Talau can't play centre against Souths. Souths are very good at targeting a weakness.
The shame is that if Naden didn't get 3 weeks for something every other club's players get a week or a fine for I'd give us a rough shot against the best team in the comp.
Bateman's a huge loss if he doesn't play. He adds the mongrel and creativity that was missing yesterday.

Only changes should be:

AJ for Talau
Bateman for AJ
Blore for Ofahengaue
Seyfarth stays on Bench
Id like to see seyfarth in cup.

Seems he is too eager to get involved which results in him hanging around the tackle (assuming he isn't the one making first or second contact). Then they are playing the ball and he still close to the ruck, leaving titanic sized holes

how far is Atasi James off a debut? He’s looked good in cup every time I’ve watched

As someone else said Simpkins could do with 80 mins in his legs in reserves, he’ll probably have to play 80 in Api’s absence
Could utilise Will Smith as the 14 if you wanted to get Simpkins 80mins in koe. Round 10 now and can use players outside the 30
