Live Game Discussion
Brooks has a terrible kicking game with very little confidence. That's why in the second half we only ever attacked in one set, and when in the lead we just ran through the motions, never tried to secure the win, just meekly handed over possession time and again. Being so confident in your own incompetence and that you'd stuff up that you don't even try. Pretty embarrassing.

Arguably Wakeham has a better kicking game then Brooks a lot of the time and he failed to find touch i guess thats saying something. Thats why we died with the ball on the 5th a fair few times imo we cant trust we wont give away 7 tackle sets in a tight game.

I understood the one in the second half, but the 2 in the first half shit me. They either attack recklessly or not at all. Anyway, hopefully as confidence grows we get the balance right.

No, he wasn't. He scored a try, yes, but otherwise he spent most of the day running sideways.
He did more good things than bad. I’ll have to watch replay but thought his few sideways runs were to try and get us in the middle of the field? He ran straighter than he had been before his time in ressies.

However I was dirty when he rushed off his wing again. At least he backed up to help push the player out.

He he didn’t run sideways for most of the game.

He was influential on the result. The scrum play doesn’t happen without him, he literally pulled Bula back of the scrum and directed what needed to happen and pointed at our spine to go that direction. He sprinted past Bula to be in position for the ball. He was calling that play & delivered.

He made a run off our line at the death and dragged a couple of their players to the 30m that effectively sealed the game. Nofa played well
In that play he also threw a very reckless offload that could have cost us the game. it came off this time thankfully, but hasn't more often than not

Forgot to add in my last post I'm disappointed with Papalii so far this year.

No really barnstorming runs - everything seems half-paced. I would have thought with the positive attitude starting to infect the team he would lift more but......
Do you just not understand that he need better ball to give him some time, space and momentum to run onto? Ball players all do something to give the receiver a line with a bit of doubt /uncertainty.. sadly the people delivering the ball to Ice this year are not capable of this, the only doubt they create is how hard the ball will be flung at him, how far he will have to reach for it, how much he will have to change his direction to get it and what HospiTal the pass will send him to….

And Laurie was still better than the Moses M'Bye standing still or pretend to go for an intercept to avoid contact
Mbye approaches his defence the way a kid approaches a ’classic catches “ competition in the backyard.. he flings his body in the most outrageous stunt like way imaginable to try to make it look like he is making an incredible effort to unluckily miss contact with the ball carrier

Our attacking formations are crap but the biggest issue is lack of depth.

On the weekend we had the least depth in our backline play when in attacking zones and on multiple times had large overlaps on the edges by a large distance.

All other NRL teams had between 18-25mtrs depth from ball played position to the distant winger. We often are within 5-12mtrs & very flat.

More often that not our defensive 10mtr line from the ruck had more depth than our attacking formations.

This is huge as it gives us zero chance to actually use the ball with and deception, speed and power. It forces our ball movement to be pass the parcel style and allows teams to defend with ease whilst limiting our kicking options close to the line as well.

Possibly all valid if he was consistently running into holes to require a pass be thrown to him in the first place.

Lets be grateful for what we have
A very good fullback, 2 good wingers ,an improving week by week right center (Toa )
A serviceable if not great 5/8 he kicked a 40/20 2 sideline conversions and a remarkable
10.5 m line drop out
A much maligned half back who has deserved a lot of the criticism given he's had a decade But has shown a lot of spark in the last few weeks
We also have a run on pack with Bateman back in as good as any in the comp
This leaves imo 3 areas that need attention -
The left center and the bench forwards imo joffa is lacking punch and Talau is very stop gap and nothing special . Maybe Naden if he can use his head a bit better and Thirdly would love to recruit another playmaker as atm we don't have any options there unless Laurie is an option
