Starford To’a #253

Isn't this what we all want. Coaches improving players. Star is young and the best is in front of him. See a little of Shane Elford in him this year
Yeah it's amazing how players improve when they've got a coach.
After 4 years of players only getting worse we've suddenly got a group of blokes showing improvement. Even freakin' Noffa's improving.
Who knew coaching works hey?

I think Benji chat with Nofa would make interesting reading, coz it seems to have had a positive effect on him.
As far as Toa, I was calling for his head but now he’s established as right centre, which he seems to prefer, and has built his confidence, he’s showing a lot more.
This Saturday will show how far we’ve come with a number of these players.
As I’ve said many times, good coaching is as much about man management as it is about skills/tactics.
Maybe Nofa is Benjis first foray into that side of coaching. I think it’s much more effective for the team than running plays at training.

I would really like to know what was said in the Benji-Nofo chat.

Since the chat, whatever was said, Nofo has suddenly changed his game style.

He's back to his old Nofo.

Not sold on him yet. Only a couple weeks ago Walsh had him stargazing before a try. He is improving though

Credit to To'a - I was a doubter, still somewhat am. If he continues this way, absolutely deserves his spot.
He's a natural talent (unlike Doueihi in particular) - just needs ro mature - put his head down and learn his footy like most players his age!

Blokes like Bradman Best & Lomax were supposed to be knocking on the Origin door now - but they are slow learners who still make elementary errors while trying to be too flash and do not get the basics right!

Starford came from a far less privileged background than those two - and I'll back him to knuckle down to learn the lessons ahead of the two pre-anointed star brats who think their talent is good enough!!

I agree. Starford came to us as a relatively cheap depth signing and was only 21 with not many NRL games.

He ended up playing 21 games in 3 different positions (in a week side). His defence still needs some work but he is a lot more reliable than Naden, AJ and Talau. He is a lot bigger, quicker and evasive than he looks.

Yep, has been immense for us past two weeks. Would be massive if he played like this consistently...

I also have concerns over aspects of Doueihi's game, but geez you seem to really dislike the guy, did he kill your dog or something?

It's good to see people realizing this kid is good.

I only saw him as a winger. I thought he had a good bump on him when carrying the ball but no hole running ability or ability to set up a winger. So that's why o saw him as a winger. But he is growing as a centre. He has a great left arm fend and deceptively quick.

I'm really liking him at right centre now.

You saw Latrell show him a lot of respect at one point yesterday. Mitchell had to tackle him a couple of times and you could see he was impressed by how hard Toa was to handle. For an arrogant grub like Latrell, who is totally in love with himself, it's high praise really.
