Luke Brooks #167

If he was offered 550k he was never going to accept that - back rowers are getting more than that.
Good form coincides with looking for a new contract - makes sense.
At least he has informed them early and we get to see if the "flowerpot men's" star recruitment manager has been worth upsetting Mr Sheens.

This is good for everyone. He didn't deserve more than what we offered and I'm glad he gets the change he needs. We tried as hard as anyone else to make it work with him but it wasn't working. 1 month of good footy doesn't change my mind.

I still wish him well wherever he goes. It'll be weird seeing him in any other jersey but that's how life goes.

Also, take out the Cowboys game and we have only 157 points in 12 games.

That's 13 a game. And this is Brooks in "good" form with one of the best packs in the comp.

At his absolute best he's maybe the what? 20th best halfback/five-eighth in tbe league? No point crying over not wanting to overpay a guy who on his day is middling and when not playing well is a reserve grader.

Let go of the best 7 we’ve had in years & someone who genuinely loved the club & wanted to stay just to put our faith in Brooks & now he’s leaving too. Wests Tigers the gift that keeps on giving !!!
I am good with Brooks but I just don't get some comments. He is the only half (subject to availability) that we have had in the last 10 years and unless I am mistaken we have not made finals in that period, are currently running equal last and we suck. Time to move on and try another path with our halfback position. If it doesn't work, we can be no worse off.

Hmm. So he's happy to not play up to standard for big money but, as soon as he has the chance to give back to the club for all it's given him, he leaves. If that's his attitude, he should go, and it explains that he actually didn't care about giving the Tigers value for money.
Offering him a rumoured $550 a year is an insult. The Raiders supposedly offered Wighton $1.1M per year, and he isn't much, if any better than Brooks. I suspect the Tigers will up their offer and he will stay, or they don't want him and we can look forward to a new halves pairing in 2024. I'd prefer to keep Brooks at 5/8 and find a decent half, easier than finding two decent halves. Hopefully Fulton has a solution, though unlikely the club has a plan B.

To be honest we are in last with 3 wins Dragon's have 4 wins

The club really insulted him offering him half of what he's already on....

Would you stay at your current employer if they told you they're cutting your wage by 50%?

Idiots...dead set clueless basket case club
Honestly most people know his contract over 3 years was 750 average a year.. the guy falls to bits under pressure and hasn’t delivered constantly except one year… 250k less is actually what he’s worth let’s see who pays more…

Problem is we have no fit NRL standard 6 or 7 next year, and we really needed Brooks as a running 6 paired with a quality playmaking 7(TBA).Now we hve 2 huge gaps, with nothing of quality available
In those circumstances, his $500k offer was an insult, even tho its his market value.Looks like he took it that way
Any other year,Brooks despite his last few games ,is surplus to requirements..but his resignation hastotally caught us with our pants down short term..and one less Isaac Moses player is not a bad thing
Just as well we have player magnets like Benji and Sheens on board to do their thing and attract all and sundry, plus Fulton as our recruiter..what cld posibly go wrong?

Brooks going elsewhere ? Well that settles a lot of debates . I think a good no 7 is worth 700k and if he was only offered 500k that's like asking him to refund part of this year's $1mill + . Anyway he was in poor form for a couple of years and in good form for about 7 weeks .
Topic done and dusted .
My concern is the lack of quality playmakers we have at the moment and our lack of depth in general .
Joe gone ,Brooks going , Douehi gone till maybe 2025, Api lucky if he's back this year , Scott and Justin told a few others to go .
What the hell is the plan ?? Recruit who?
Our KOE cup side struggles and mostly loses .
Unless there is some hidden bunch of budding superstars in our pathways that are ready for NRL ? I'm at a loss going forward

Wighton has consistently been selected for NSW and Australia. He is better than Brooks.

Fantastic news.
The money he was offered was not halfback money because, frankly, he’s not a halfback.
Also lowballed to let him know, no matter what gets spouted to the media, he’s not in our plans going forward.
The injuries look like they might start to be more of a worry too (although the offer was made prior to his current injury).
3 years, at his age, on decent money with average form and he decides it’s a no from him.
Be interesting to know who’s waiting in the wings.

I don’t care that Brooks is leaving my issue is with the decision makers at this club letting every available half at the club go to stick with Brooks just for Brooks to leave anyway…. just a circus all round

I think this is a misread. I don't think we saw any of the halves we've let go namely Hastings and Madden as being players to lead us up the ladder. I think they saw Doueihi as a remote chance and you can play him elsewhere so we took a small risk and gave him an additional season to prove himself. I think they saw Brooks as the cheap half whose smaller contract dollar can enable us to sign a marquee half.

I don't think they've let players go to retain Brooks hence the small contract offered.

seeming hes so eager to leave try swap him to the slime for sanders or the chooks for sam walker and get him gone 🤣 shame hes pulled a hammy
why would he go anywhere he isnonly contracted until end of 2023. He will go where the money is good, logical Canberra to replace wighton
