If he doesn’t appear to have offers to leverage for a new deal either.
I don't know what our solution is for a half - but I do know there is no better on the market than Brooks. Sad times for anyone on the market for a halfback.
Need to get someone to break their contract. Hunt for a year or two would be the perfect signing, but it's no chance. Pezet is the only other, but again... no chance.

What I find Hilarious in Rugby league is how the weaker teams seem to do the same money offer with the next talent.
I.e. NZ signed a british fullback for almost 1m. then that fullback left and they signed RTS, for the same 1 million.
We make a play for moses, we then make a play for Johnson... with almost a same money offer we made for moses. ...
Value people for what they are worth. not just what money is left over.

I can’t see how a formal offer was even made.
Like seriously it was done and dusted in a week, Johnson was never leaving NZ back to Sydney.
People think oh we talked to player x so we must’ve made an offer when most the time it’s a convo just to test the waters on if they are a chance to come then talk cash / 3rd party / freebies etc as part of next steps because every player manager and player knows we have plenty of cash to spend anyway.

Lol he was offered a contract at his market value and reportedly turned it down.
You could buy another clubs back up for less and get the same out put.

Players under contract is a simple play
call there agent and say, I’ve Heard player Hunt wants out of his contract with Dragons , we would be very very keen to chat as we need a very good half as you already know , If he is moving on from Dragon a tell Him Brooks will be 5/8 him at 7 2 year deal club option for 3 rd , And we got plenty red backs in the cupboard ,.
Now if it s a junior / Back up, coaches ring agent and say kid will,play first grade straight up and we will better his current deal , get player to front his coach and say I can play first grade now , I’m stuck behind 2 top liners please let me take that chance

So we are reduced to running last better with Brooks than with out Brooks. It's time to move on if he is not committed to the club.
He wanted out under Maguire and it showed in his performance - fair enough they didn't gel. Now he has stated he is "leaving" at the end of the year after being publically backed over and over again by the current coach who's style of play suited him. If he wants out he is of no use to us whether he is the best available or not. Clubs have bought players up from reserve grade that have done the job for their clubs during SOO period. This whole there is no one better just shows how ingrained we have become to being losers.
