Luke Brooks #167

Jahrome Hughes is a halfback. Switch him to Tigers it’s 28-6 the other way.
Highly doubt that, without a kick chase or competing for the high ball, Hughes would just be another dumb schmuck in a Wests Tigers jersey.

Let's face it, we are just a dumb team.

Some of Wakeham's kicks have not been that bad, granted that some could use a bit more hang time, but where is the kick chase?

What about competing for the high ball or those constant short drop outs, either no one knows they are on or they just could not be bothered competing for them.

Just kick the shit out of the ball because those short drop outs don't work for us, although they seem to work alright against us.

How about not kicking the ball to the winger that is destroying us.

How many tries do teams score against us from kicks?

Have to admit, I still can't believe how slow Wakeham is.

When I see him run, sometimes he looks like someone that has had his legs cut off at the knees and then they stuck his footy boots on the stumps. 🤣

Players under contract is a simple play
call there agent and say, I’ve Heard player Hunt wants out of his contract with Dragons , we would be very very keen to chat as we need a very good half as you already know , If he is moving on from Dragon a tell Him Brooks will be 5/8 him at 7 2 year deal club option for 3 rd , And we got plenty red backs in the cupboard ,.
Now if it s a junior / Back up, coaches ring agent and say kid will, play first grade straight up and we will better his current deal , get player to front his coach and say I can play first grade now , I’m stuck behind 2 top liners please let me take that chance
You would think they would be doing that but sometimes I wonder.

The rumour about Brooks possibly receiving a slightly upgraded contract would make for interesting times. If true, the final figure would not be that much less than his last contract when you take away the backloading.
According to “leaked” documents by the cap auditor in 22, he was on 550, 550, 960 and now 1.1m, which extrapolates to 790 pa.
I didn’t think it was that high.
It’s well known that Brooks loves the Tigers, and this could be the reason for the relatively subdued market, but we’re talking about the new Luke ‘selfish’ Brooks now, so I expect there are NRL options coming his way.

It was so much easier to blame the coach for our inability to perform.
Same old same old lose a couple of players to injury give one or two away to strengthen other teams with nothing back, and watch the season go to crap. Three games ago we emphatically smashed the Cowboys and in the same week Joe O - last year best and fairest and re signed in Sept - became surplus to our requirements. But hey the cap looks healthly for next season for all the players chomping at the bit to play here, while the bloke the club continually backs and keeps searching for the perfect combination to complement him, announces he his leaving too.
Without evening mentioning the recruitment of a new recruitment manager without the knowledge of General Manager of Football who has moved aside at the request of those who remain unaccountable to take on the coaching role because we couldn't attract a suitable coach to fill the position.

I just think this team does not like kicking in rugby league. They see league as a game for hands and bodies, not feet and brains.

So we almost never bother trying to pressure players under Tigers' bombs, or even get close enough to put doubt in their minds. When the other team kicks, they always seem more keen to get to the ball than Tigers' players.

I have never seen a team play with less footy smarts, and this has been the case for years. That has to come back to the coaches and organising halves.

Exactly! We would normally be rotfl at all this if it was any other club.

Brooks could publicly show his tax returns and it still wouldn't stop people labelling him as on a million a year.

So we are reduced to running last better with Brooks than with out Brooks. It's time to move on if he is not committed to the club.
He wanted out under Maguire and it showed in his performance - fair enough they didn't gel. Now he has stated he is "leaving" at the end of the year after being publically backed over and over again by the current coach who's style of play suited him. If he wants out he is of no use to us whether he is the best available or not. Clubs have bought players up from reserve grade that have done the job for their clubs during SOO period. This whole there is no one better just shows how ingrained we have become to being losers.
The negotiation process involves a lot of theater that is played our in in the media. It is not real.
Coaches publicly back their players to give them confidence, Clubs back their coaches and then sack them.
Any media story without quotes from an individual is manipulation.
I thought everyone knew this stuff.

I don't give a rat's about the perceived theatre around Brooks negotiations all I'm interested in is what the club is going to do in replacing him if the phone call to Benji is truth as reported by our chairman. There is no reason to believe that is not the case - no denials by Brooks camp. I would expect any theatre around Brooks negotiations should no longer be our concern.

Perhaps Brooks has watched his mate Moses contract negotiations and maybe has picked up a few pointers on how to maximise his next contract.
Personally i think the suggested $550 per year offer is a bit low for him considering the new cap limit. The club should come up with something better.
